Wondering if and what I can use to seal the collar to my s.s. liner. Not certain, but it may be drawing air in and keep my secondaries from engaging. I cross posted this in the Regency category but want any info from anyone. Tape? Cement? Something else? Thanks Hi300 insert

Stove cement or flat, very high-temp gasket material can be used. How large is the gap?

Thats interesting as I don't see a gap but my secondaries are not engaging and I am thinking (or wondering) if air is being pulled back in. I bought the stove used 9 years ago and they worked for a while but have worked less and less and now not at all. I will try what you suggest and encourage any other things you may think of. Wood is very dry and gasket if snug all around. I dont get it

If the stove performed well in the past then the flue collar leakage is a remote chance. A flue liner flaw is one possibility. When was the cap last removed and cleaned?
I don't know where this stove's secondary intake manifold intake is, but if that is plugged with dust and animal hairs perhaps that could be a cause??

Does the SS liner attach to the insert flue collar with the stove adaptor that normally comes with a SS liner kit? Usually that is a good seal/fit and is attached using screws through the collar of the insert. Does the insert heat well even the secondaries do not appear to be there? If normal burn temps are being achieved, then I'd second BG's suggestion to check out liner top and sec air intake for the insert. Low burn temps/lack of secondary flames can be a sign of wet wood too... some things to consider..

I cleaned from the bottom up (with a quardis I think its spelled) before I started it up in early Nov. Just looked up and the cap/bird cage does look due for another cleaning. That I will do tomorrow. The secondary air intake sounds interesting and will look into that. That is beyond my knowledge but will research that location tonight. By chance, do you know if its typically fresh air from outside the fire box or heated air from within, (As a novice I would assume from within and I guess a complete removal of ash, and firebrick would be necessary to do a deep clean of the box)

Sounds like you are on your way to taking care of it. Secondary air is room air, (Unless you have an OAK attached), normally drawn in somewhere in rear of stove. As the primary air is shut, the secondary air opening (not adjustable) becomes easier for the stove to draw air into from, and is routed thru the secondary chamber, is injected into the hot gases in the top of the firebox, and will light off these gases with the intro of fresh air. Good luck with her, the HI300 is a quality insert...

It is attached at the collar and adapter with 3 screws which are are screwed into the top of the unit. Everything appears correct. I will check the other suggestions tomorrow. Its going to be warm again so I am lucky there. I dont think it puts out the heat I ever wanted to be honest but I have lived with it cause I squirreled away wood for a long time. Some going back to superstorm Sanday. All sitting stacked and covered. Some at this point may be too try but I am sure my wood is good. Thanks a bunch.

Take off the cap and clean the screen as well as the top of the chimney pipe. That may be all it takes.

Will give it a go. I am hoping to go the season and then install a 2 year old barely used Regency Hi500 that I picked up sooo cheap. They didnt know what they had and wanted it gone. Liner too. Embarrassing cheap but I got it out of there. Anyway thanks with my current issue as I want it working well for the next person I sell it to.
