This is an intriguing materials research project. They are developing a material that can use carbon in the air to heal itself.

"Massachusetts Institute of Technology researchers have created the new material that can react with carbon dioxide from the air to grow, strengthen and repair itself by performing a chemical process similar to how plants incorporate carbon dioxide from the air into growing tissues."

The material is still in early development. Right now they are using chloroplasts extracted from plants which limits its lifespan, but they are working on synthesizing chloroplasts. The implications of this new concept are pretty amazing when one envisions it as a building material.

interesting concept

Yes, I like this kind of out of the box thinking. It will be interesting to see how it develops.
