Hello... we're looking to purchase a freestanding pellet stove and I just found a used St. Croix model listed for $1250 (but they said they're flexible on price). It is 10 yrs old... It also comes with an insulated metal hearth.

Here is the model they're selling (the new version): https://pellethead.com/product/st-croix-auburn-multi-fuel-stove/

They said it was used infrequently, and works well. They decided to install a mini-split instead. Would you buy it? How much would you pay for this? We are BRAND NEW to pellet stoves and will be installing it in a new addition we built.

Give me all the pro tips!

Thanks...

The photos are nice. The price, I feel, is a little high. 10 year old used stove
spring sale in Canada is around 6 to 8 hundred, but only if it runs as it should
Have you seen it run? If not, ask to see it outside and fired up

Thank you! Yes, they said they are "very flexible" on the price. We were thinking of offering $500 and going from there... I will ask to see it fired up in person before purchasing. Appreciate the response!

Oh wow just found this one too.. not sure if I should should create a new post but what do you all think of this one? It's the Ironstrike Winslow PS40 for $1200, made in 2006. It looks brand new in the pictures...

Over $1000.00 id want the stove to be no older than 8yrs. No mater of use it still has the older programming and software. Probably isnt as efficient. Like Johnhe said see it run in person pick it apart, I like the $500 offer 😎

I found this one as well.. looks brand new but he says he won't go under $1,000. Made it 2006... what do you think?

Nice, but you can buy some new stoves for under 2000$
and over a Grand for an 18-year-old technology and all
Stoves that use power have fans, one for combustion, one for circulation

Go to tractor supply and get a new one . Way to much for that, i take them away free when installing a new stove. You will kick yourself
Looks like a fresh reman(nothing wrong with that) but its not the buyers fault he put to much into the stove that you cant get it back.

This refurbished Harman looks great... just not sure what to expect with a refurbished model!

Just message them and see what new parts they installed. I would think they painted it and put new gaskets as well. Harmans are very solid so those would be the things I’ve done when I’ve refurbished them.

St Croix - I had one of its siblings, a Hastings, a long time ago. It does not quite hold a bag of pellets, has a small ash pan, and has a lot of nooks and crannies to clean. On top of that, it can be persnickety to dial in the draft if you change pellets being used. If you are looking at more full time use, I would take those into consideration.

The Hastings did work well, and it looked nice in the living room, it just didn't work well for my circumstances. In the deep of winter it would run out of pellets about 13 hours (and at the time I was away for work 13-16 hours a day). I also HAD to clean it every two weeks because of the small ash pan. And don't get me started on all the ash traps and having to remove/install all the baffles.

After 1 season, and finding a used Harman P43 for a killer price, I sold the Hastings and never looked back.

I love my Harmans (the reason I jumped on the P43 was because of my experience with the P61a). They have been very solid and dependable. The only thing is that the XXV probably wouldn't work as well for me because of the smaller hopper (and I'm unsure if you could place an extension on there - as I have on both my stoves) and smaller ash pan. Also, does that price include shipping? That seems to be a big price. I would think you could find something cheaper, and from a local refurbisher on CL / FBM.
