I have a Heat & Glo Escape I30-F. On battery backup, it starts ok but then turns off after 5-10 sec. The remote is working and the unit works fine on AC power. The thermostat and fan are set to "off". Any thoughts about what the problem is?

Is EACH one really at 1.5VDC or better??
I have seen remotes fail to operate at 5.97 VDC.
Just askin...

A meter shows 5.92V. They are fresh batteries and if that's not sufficient, there's no hope.

The batteries are clearly sufficient for ignition. It seems that the important follow-up question is what the load on the batteries is after ignition.

5.92VDC is not 6VDC. I would try
replacing the weakest battery with
one that exceeds 1.5VDC & try it out.
If that doesn't work, something else
needs to be looked at.
