My pack of 100 super cedars is finally exhausted after many years. I love them and they claim to be safe for catalytic wood stoves. Is there something better now that is safe for catalytics? Also would anyone happen to have a discount code that is current.
Thanks.

I just got a shipment of 36 from Amazon, but they don't have a label on them showing they are Super Cedar brand? Did SC do this to save a little money or did I get generics?

** Update ** Sent an email this morning and got a reply from Thomas within 30 minutes. These are original and shipped directly from their manufacturing facility. Awesome customer service!

I've used Super Cedar for years; however, of late, it's become quite expensive, and coupons are scarce. I picked up a box of a similar product, Lightning Nuggets, a box of 100 for $23 shipped from Amazon. They work perfectly; one is all it takes. They burn for 15 to 20 minutes. Not through with Super cedar, but their prices have soared lately. This box of Lightning Nuggets will last me quite some time.

I'll get 144 fires out of the 36 super cedars and they were $38

so for 288 fires that's roughly $76-

For the Nuggets it's $69- for 300

the nuggets are 7 bucks less and still get 12 more fires out of them than the cedars. If you're on a budget that's money.

I'll have to give them a try when I use up this latest batch of Super Cedars. I use the Rutland starters for my charcoal chimney as well as my maple syrup evaporator. They are fine but I find the super cedars work much faster

And most importantly, use what works best for you! I use fatwood and pine cones. I've tried other fire starters but those seem to work the best for me.

Not on a budget , only a spending lots of money budget, just wanted to try something new,SC have always got the job done but so do the new starters.

I quit using them years ago when the price got silly. Scored several boxes of Diamond Strike-A-Fire on clearance for $7.28 each. 48 count,...but always break in half,...so 96 lightings for the upstairs stove.
....about a box a year,....maybe a little more depending how often I burn downstairs (IIRC)

Still a better deal at full price I think......

YMMV

I don't think a little paraffin could hurt a combustor, plus I have the bypass open when starting.
I've got about 50 SCs but I also use Meeco Red Devil SureStart Firelighting Squares, 144 for $15. I also use kindling, so I get four starts per square. 2.6 cents a start. You're not gonna light a split on fire with the small starters segments that I use.
They are made of a cardboard or paper of some type, so I guess there could be a chemical in there that's not good for a cat..
Hmm, that whole square appears lighter in color than the pieces, so I assume it has less paraffin than the older squares. Could be the old supermarket ploy going on here; Open up a can of something, and half the contents are water. 🤨

I forget what it was, but I found a 30% off code for Super Cedars earlier in the fall. A box of 100 unwrapped Super Cedars lasts me 5-6 burning seasons. If I am worried about $7-10 over the course of 5-6 years, then a lot of things in my life would need re-evaluating more than my choice of fire starters.
