Surge Protector

Enviro M55 Cast will be installed on the 28th, so I want to get a surge protector beforehand.. Will any surge protector do or do I need a particular type? THANKS!!

I just bought the little single outlet surge protector from Home Depot. I believe its made by Belkin. Has 2 led lights on it for "protected" and "grounded". seems to do the trick. nothing fancy.

Don't get caught up in buying expensive protectors. most important thing is make sure it has three line protection. For 6 dollars it is a three line protector, best bang for $6.00. It is a single use unit, but how often will you need to replace it? I never had to replace mine yet and had it for a few years.

I've had to replace surge protectors in my house because they did their job, took the surge and protected the appliance. Even to the point where it left a slight burn mark on hardwood floor. So on that note I have protectors on every major appliance, computers, stereo, TV, etc, and on the main panel box. The surge also took out my cook top, new refrigerator, all GFCI outlets, etc. The power company, refused to acknowledge there was a problem until I took a pic of the 'burnt' electric meter . Many have warranty & coverage on loss so save receipt and box.

Some Info:
I had Duke power install a surge protector on my electric meter. I pay about $12/mo for one year. I still use a Bilikin strip surge protector on my pellet stove
