I know several people have written about their boilers knocking when boilers is nearing peak fire and I was wondering if you fixed it and what you did to fix it. Mine is still knocking and I am going to try and purge the air out for about the fifth or sixth time. I have tried circulating a couple of different ways to get the air out. Could my Taco 007 be to small? I have no storage and I am hooked in series with my oil boiler. I installed a coin vent on top of my boiler and have a 1.25 air seperator on my main line. Any pointers would be appreciated. Doug

Try to jack up the front left corner of the boiler with the leveling bolts on the bottom. That will put the coin vent on the high corner. Should help.
Next summer, if you can shut down the boiler, put in a 3/8" valve and an automatic vent in the vent tapping on the top of the boiler.
Be persistent venting. Vent when the boiler is cool, when it is at max temp, when the circ. is running and when it is not. You most likely have a slug of air.

My system with five 60' copper loops surrounding the firebox isn't remotely comparable to yours, but pump size makes a BIG difference when it comes to removing air. When I first set up my system my only pump was a 007 and I'm not sure it could ever remove all the air. Now I use a 011 to purge any air then swap it for a 007 and it moves all the heat I need. I like to think of the 007 as having all the HP of a 75 watt light bulb.
I used to have the same problem with my Eko 40. Same Taco 007 pump. I burned a couple years that way. If I started the fire after a period of down-time I'd get the same problem with an airlock. Come to find out, after I started to add up all the "head" I had in my system, I realized my pump was too small to move the water right. A bigger pump matched to my "head" cleared the airlock right up. Now my air-vents work like they should and all is good. Good Luck

Is the knocking in the Tarm itself (not the system lines) really air or is it formation of hot spot steam bubbles, which merely condense back to water as they cool a bit?
