Have you found anything or device to be the simplest / best tie down? Ratchet strap, rope with a knot, chain, whatever. If you haul something regularly, such as a 4-wheeler or whatever, do you have custom made straps/ropes/chains for it?

My brother favors rope and a good knot.
 
these are my favorites. We have some 6' ones some 1" 10' ones and some 2" 10' ones all hold up well and the self wrapping is great. I have tried similar cheaper ones from lowes ect but the erickson ones are the only ones that hold up.

I have had very good luck with ratchet straps like those above.
