Time for High/Low?

First year on a stat here. When does everyone switch from on-off to high-low? Lows in the low 20's the next two nights here but should warm up a bit towards the end of the week.

Hi/lo is all I have unless I pony up the two hundred for a new control board!! I've been running mostly low and slow 24/7 anyway. Shut it off when it gets too warm or to clean twice a week.

I also have no choice. I do not have electronic ignition so I run high / low all the time. I think I'll spring for the ignition after the holidays though. When I am at work, I flip it to manual low where it puts along keeping the house reasonably warm. When I get home it's back to auto high / low, running off the T Stat.

I've been using hi/lo for the last couple weeks at night only. Its been pretty cold up my way.

Still using on-off here. When temps start to stay near freezing or below consistently, I'll switch.

So if the low burn just contributes to the heat loss without overheating it would be time? Don't have that option with my Quad.

I can just about(keep up with the heat loss) maintain the heat level(72ºF) in this weather. With night time lows in the lower 20's it pretty much stays steady. I still go to auto/off during the day as once it warms to the mid 30's(and my solar gain) The temps rise about a degree every 2 hours. It would be too warm to stay on hi/lo in my case. So only hi/lo in the evenings. That is, if I remember to switch it when I get home!

I just switched to hi/lo this past weekend. It is a bit of a pain with a fpi, have to pull it out a bit to move the jumper on the board. I like it better in hi/low, less wear on the ignitor.

Thats the only downfall to the Quad (Classic Bay that is)

But that's also why the Furnace.is.running right now It does the high/low thing and keeps up with heat loss on Low, untio about 20°-25°… Then it kicks up to High (level 3 of 5).

I wish Quad would come out with an updated controller Even if it was $400, it would be worth it. Helps keep temps in check and saves on wear and tear.

Jay...on off during the day and high low at night. Why didn't I think of something that obvious! Hearth comes through again.

I get great solar gain during sunny days, but it's been getting cold at night. The stove didn't run for the entire day, and temps reached 75 in the house despite a high of 35 outside. A stove cruising on low would have put the house into the 80s. On the other hand...my thermometer is registering 18 outside right now, and the stove just kicked off....time to switch it over to high low for the night.

I am loving the high/low. I only burn when I get home after work until mornin and run the manual to start and then switch to high low through the night. gotta love it. I leave the house cold all day when no one is around and it only costs about 1/2 a bag a day (so far). I am sure once the temp really drops that will change.

On/off is all I have. Wish the Leyden had hi/low.

I run manual or hi/low, the stove has been hi/low for some time with the high being 2 and the low 1- (that is 25% below the normal #1 firing rate). The next switch will be to 2 and low will be 1.

My stove goes hi/lo/off/on via the thermostat. i guess i'm lucky.

I've also been on Hi/Low for the last couple weeks, mainly at night - usually turn it off during day or auto on/off. Soon it will just be on Hi/Low until Spring.

Well, last year we ran the Smartstat (on/off) all winter not knowing. This year (by reading the manual - imagine that - don't know how I missed it) it reccomends running on T stat (high/low) during the colder months.

so, we have been running T stat this year to save on the ignitor.
