Please see my attached picture. I would like to replace the existing wood stove with a pellet stove. If I want the stove to fit on the brick portion of the floor, will I need a top vent stove? It looks that way to me. What stoves can be vented on top? I saw a Harman XXV on display and it was vented from the top, but it was also $4k. What else might be had at a lower price, say $3k or less? I don't want the stove to be partly on the brick and partly on the tile as I think the stove would look out of place. Also, eventually there will be a hardwood floor in this room. The house is around 2000 sq. feet and in NH. Thank you.

For a rear vented stove, you will need clearance behind the stove for a cleanout to attach your vertical run of pipe. From the picture, it does not look like you have enough space to do this so yes, you need a top vent.

Im bored so I did some searching. From previous forum posts the only known is the xxv.

Others say they can vertically vent but they come out the back and T to vertical vent which would push it out more.

The Quads have the same top-vent adapter as the XXV. They include a trap door for very easy cleaning and are approved to connect directly to existing stove pipe.

None of these are a true top vent in the wood/coal stove sense, all of the top vent adapters go up the very back panel of the stove. The stove will sit a bit forward of where your wood stove is.

What is the horizontal distance from the edge of your brick back to the stove pipe? I have the Castile with the top vent. The glass is 23" in front of the stove pipe, and a wood floor will require a 6" set back from the edge of the brick. So it needs 29 inches if you plan for a wood floor. The other Quads and the XXV need more.

Your brick hearth looks to have straight laid bricks not in a mosaic pattern or specialty pattern. You can add as many more rows as you need , then you don't have to look for a top vent stove.

Yeah they renamed the Upland 207...it's now a SPC50. It does have a top vent and can use 6" flue so changing out the pipe won't be required
