Met Slow1 out in Springfield today to do a little more cleanup. With the help of a local church who performed limb dragging duties, we were able to make quite a dent in the wood debris on Mr. C's property. Very rewarding experience and saw the appreciation on Mr.C's face. There is still plenty of work to do out there; beautiful oak, ash, maple...... I have to admit, it was hard leaving all that wood behind (did not want to transport MA wood into NH). C'est la vie!

Once again, a big thank you to you fellows out east for helping neighbors.

Slow1 did all the hard work (coordination). I just showed up to cut, which is the easy and fun part.

I too enjoyed the day - here is a "before and after" shot to show some of the work we did. Granted, not exactly the same camera angle, but if you orient on the corner of the house you can get a pretty good idea of what was done - that is a lot of brush/wood cut and moved out of there. When we arrived it was impossible to walk around the house, but you could easily do it when we left.

And another one to show progress... Before shows the large oak down - orient on the umbrella (down in first shot). Second is looking at the pond that you can't see from the first due to the trees in the way. I should add btw that these were taken a bit before we actually left so a little more cutting was done to clean up...

In case anyone is wondering - yes this is a wood scrounger's dream. If only I lived closer... However, apparently there are folks living near enough to gather wood. Mr. C has had people knocking on his door asking for wood. He is happy enough to let them take it of course - he isn't looking to put in a stove (He had sold the place as you may recall and was in the process of moving out... now he's looking for another buyer). Anyway, first trip I was there we were hauling the wood to the curb. Not anymore - the scroungers (hey, I resemble that description most days!) can come down the driveway and get the wood themselves, we only send the brush up to the street now. In fact, unless it is in the way, the site policy now is to let the rounds stay where they land so the scroungers can come pick them up themselves... some does get stacked off to the side... again, I do wish I lived close enough to justify driving out to pick this up and bring it home.. I'd be set for the next few years.

Final pictures to show... anyone want to suggest how to take this one down? :) I'm confident in one thing - it is beyond my skills to do safely.

You can't see it very well in the picture, but the top section that is touching the ground is leaning on and appears to be supported partially by one of those trees that is still standing. The blown out section of trunk there is totally hollow.

Wow ! Nice job there guys. I wish I were closer so that I could help out. Most definately a scroungers dream come true. It is so nice to see that I am a member of a community that will help others out, to often in this world anymore it seems that people are not willing to help out their fellow man without expecting something in return. WTG !!

Nice job guys. I need to monitor some of these posts even if I don't respond to them. Pictures can only show so much of the devastation. One would have to be there to truly understand the scope and magnitude of the damage.

I would have been there if: a.) had I followed the post, and b.) if I was not on call for my job as I have travel distance limitations in that regards. This site seems to cultivate some real decent people. Way to go. Now if Home Depot only rented boom trucks...

I'd even be nervous with a boom truck on that last one. One thing I noticed about cutting these trees is there is a little extra torque in them from them being twisted during the storm. I will admit, i will make some pretty gnarly cuts without thinking twice, but I wasn't about to go near that particular tree.

Overall, the way I see it, we not only helped Mr. C clear his land, but I made it quite easy for the scroungers in the area at the same time. Perhaps I should have posted this thread in the wood shed.

Be well everyone.

p.s. I realized the shots of Slow1 and I are the first shots I have posted of myself in these forums. Guess my anonymity it shot.

Sorry, I meant a logging truck with a boom. It is great that the local scroungers will benefit from this...(and no pun is intended) ...windfall of trees.
