Tragic and sad.

Nearly 20 years in construction, I've lost one good friend and a couple of acquaintances to construction accidents.

In every single incident, someone did something wrong, or multiple things wrong, and if they hadn't they would be here today.

At the least, let this be a reminder to everyone else, when you're dealing with things that can and will kill you, take your time to make sure you're safe first and foremost.

For me, I am always thinking, " this could be the time" I cut my leg real bad, or have a near death car accident. Its probably from being in the healthcare industry for 25 yrs.

A friend and relative nearly lost his life a couple months ago in a basic construction accident. First floor sub-floor had just been installed and he was walking the job. Someone didn't secure a sheet and he fell 12 feet into the basement. Somehow he survived but is still recovering. You never know when stuff like this is going to happen.

sad, you never know. I had a truck drop off a lift (rack slid out due to fresh undercoat)....truck landed on it's side then rocked towards me.....the front wheel was one foot in front of my head when it landed, which was pressed against the wall......nowhere to go

The gofundme site is amazing! Almost near the Goal already.

The gofundme site is amazing! Almost near the Goal already.

Because it's a worthy fundraiser.

I knew two folks who tried to raise money with that site and failed.

The first one is legally blind and tried to raise money for an electric powered bike since he cannot drive a car. The fact that he didn't raise any of his own money, could see well enough to play video games and would effectively be driving a bike on the streets at speeds around 30 mph gave enough folks pause to wonder if contributing money to this cause was truly worthy.

The second person moved her family from Maine to Alabama and then after three weeks or so tried to use the site to raise money to move back to Maine. The fact that she didn't look for even a part time job (and hasn't ever held a job -- she's 40 or so years old), moved there without thinking ahead and just expected everyone to bail her out for her poor decision making resulted in no one contributing.

Yes Jake. it is easy to choose the causes one donates too. I am just amazed how the internet has helped with things like this and the speed of how things move. So much faster than bake sales!
I was just thinking, I will need to verify, but I do not believe this young man ever received a paycheck from an employer. I believe right from the gate went solo. A true American story.

Anyone else notice that the OSHA spokesman's name was Edmund Fitzgerald? Not to take away from the story at hand, but you sometimes have to wonder what parents are thinking...

Wonder if he was born in 1975 or 1976? She sank the week I was born.

So what happens with his business with OHSA investigation? No idea how your system works there other than it is a safety association...
