Trailer Hitch On Tractor Boom Pole

Been wanting to add a trailer hitch to the boom pole on my Massey Ferguson TO35 tractor. I normally leave the boom pole on it all the time unless I need to use the grader blade which is seldom. Should be nice to be able to quickly hook up to my 12' landscape trailer or my bigger 14' flatbed or log splitter as well.

I was in Walmart last night and looked at the class II Reese 81378 Step Bumper Hitch. It looked like it should fit the bill. So after finding a coupon I had for Advance Auto, I pulled the trigger and bought one today while it was snowing. These can be had for around $35 wherever Reese is sold.

I just got it installed a while ago. It was pretty easy, just had to bore 4 1/2" holes to mount the hitch. I had an old 80's model drawtite drawbar laying around that I cut 3/4" off of the end to keep it from bottoming out in the hitch. I used all the hardware that came with the hitch. I would like to add another bracket to the top for more strength but I figure it's got a good bit the way it is. I might do that later. It mounted backwards to the way it would have been on a truck but, if it fits it fits right?

I've wanted to build some hitch attachments but can never find the raw square stock. What do they call the square tubing that slides into the receiver and what type of retail place sells it?

I have a small Kubota tractor and I got tired of removing my finish mower to move one of my trailers to enable me to mow grass around it. So I added a hitch to the mower.

Nice idea. Want to get more outta that boom pole? About 10 years ago I made a hydraulic top link for my 1750 Oliver. All you need is some 1 inch thick flat stock and some heavy wall tubing. 1 and 1/16th holes drilled in both. Weld em up. You need 1 for each end of the cylinder.


Really works nice when I'm using my 7 foot snow blower. Don't have to get down and adjust a froze up screw type top link.

I've also had the Great Day LNPHH650 Lawn-Pro Lawnmower Hi-Hitch on my old Poulan rider for a few years now. It is really handy. I can pull my plastic John Deere lawn cart on the low hitch point, then use the high 2" ball to pull my Northstar 37 ton log splitter.

It puts each of these at the right working heigth. Really handy for wood hauling and splitting chores. I'm sure it would pull a small landscape or utility trailer as long as it wasn't loaded to heavy.

Why not make a front mount hitch, you would not believe how much easier it is to move trailers.

I have a trailer ball mounted on the front factory bumper of my Massey. It is a little high but does work well for moving trailers. You can just look straight ahead and watch as you surf it right to the landing zone. As once said, you can never have enough connection points.

It is sometimes nice to be able to pull from the front as well.

I don't think it could work better then what I have. I can unlatch trailer hitches, before I begin to cut, back up to them, raise the lift, and move to where I want them. I don't even have to get off tractor.

You might have to patent that as the Giles Move N Mow. Looks good. The older I get, the easier I like for things to work.

I put this together for for IH Cub Cadet. It uses the factory rear hydraulic lift and sleeve hitch. The height range isn't enough to dump anything, but I can back up to a trailer and pick it up without leaving the seat. It is also a pin hitch for GT attachments.

True, I only latch mine going up big hills. I have lost a trailer or two though.

Funny. I lost my little trailer on a hill a few months ago. I get off the seat to latch now. I even hook the chains.
