Heat is OK but very ashy and a strange, sticky, clumpy ash at that. Glad I only got three bags to test. Ran for over two weeks with about half an ash pan, these three bags pretty much filled the rest!

Sounds like typical TSC stuff. Were the bags ripped and taped up? Thats SOP for TSC.

I just returned all of my Easy Heat pellets. I had a good pallet of them in the beginning of the season and the next was all ash. I had real good luck testing with some TSC pellets early in the season but they have changed now to FEP Hardwoods and I get terrible buildup and still on a 24 hour shutdown cycle to clean the pot and re-start. I have a broken and mixed 1/2 pallet of mixed pellets that are like this to work through until I can find a better option. I will be driving and testing all week to see what is available. I can usually tell with 2-3 bags and 24 hours. I rarely see any of the brands the guys like from other regions. I still think my problem is dampness. Most of the places around here store their pellets or they were previously stored someplace subjected to high humidity levels at times and most any moisture drawn in don't get back out.

Here is my 24 hour ash clump on either of our farm store pellets.

Not to sound demeaning but I don't understand why people don't prebuy whats good and have enough for the year. I've been buying Somersets for 3 years now, all pre buy in multiple tons and all good with no quality issues at all, in fact, I finally dumped my ash drawer after a full ton of pellets and a full ton of corn, first time.

Mr. Doty, I don't see why you don't jump in your jalopy and drive down to Somerset Kentucky (just south of Cincinatti) and get some pellets. Hop and a skip for you.....

I have enough Lignetics to take me thru. Just playing with other brands as I find them. So far only Blazers are acceptable.

Wow it never occurred to me they were from that Somerset and available direct. In fact I just bought a new Kubota tractor that is too much for my car trailer and I am wanting to go down that way, just past in fact to pick up a new heavier 8 lug version, would make a great round trip. I'll be on the phone tomorrow. Crazy I have never seen them selling around here and they are so close. I've been in every big box and stove store except for asking at one Harman dealer since I was told they kinda frowned on selling pellets to non stove customers and i think i recall them selling them...

Thats where they are. Somerset Pellets is actually a flooring mill. They process their waste into wood pellets. Always good stuff. Best pellets I've ever used.

I actually have 2 Kubota's but neither would work very well on a car trailer. Both are over 100 horse cab models and weigh about 4 ton each.

Just searched for dealers of their pellets and I drive by a Do It Best Hardware a couple of time a week and did not know. I'll stop in the morning on my way past heading to a meeting in Batesville in..

I wish there were retailers on Long Island which you could prebuy from. There are very few retailers here that do so, and the ones that do sell a ton for 350 plus.

The big problem I see with Indecks is that retailers store them outside, so they gather moisture. That may be a factor in the condition of the ash the OP described. I didn't notice a lot of clinkers in the ton I burned.

While in an experimental mood I observed the time it took to get my boiler temp from 140 to 180 degrees using Indecks vs. Somersets. Indecks took 13 minutes; Somersets, 12:30. Yeah, Indecks are ashy, but I can get a ton of Indecks around here for $215 a ton while Somersets cost $250.

These were inside when I bought them. Don't remember seeing ash like this. Almost "gooey." One of the worst I've ever burned. To me anyway, not worth it at any price.

I have already commented on it else ware but back to this original thread, I took Side Car's advice and got a few bags of the Somersets and my cake problem went away and the heat is like nothing I had previously experienced. I am going back to get pallets instead of bags this week. Wow what a diff. Even changed my avatar.

we just got indecks here and I was thinking I'd try some. Guess I wont bother. I still have 4.5 tons of somersets. Btw I store mine outside right by the door to my house and always have. I've never had a moisture issue.

Might be worth a couple of bags. You might have a different lot. And remember, mine were TSC rebags. . . . .

I tried a ton of Indecks from Menards in November and was pleasantly surprised. Still have some older ones and are nearly as bad as the bird seed companies

I bought 2 tons of Somersets today and put back to last the rest of the winter. They burn so hot and so well I can mix in these nearly Non-Flammable Easy Heats and still get good clean burning and it pulls down the heat a bit too. Im gonna be able to back down 1 or 2 clicks out of 5 on heat settings with these somersets. $240 a ton and slow down the auger makes them a fantastic bargain.

I see you took my advice and got some REAL pellets... about time.

I do give good advice most of the time.....

I know that, I sorted out who was who within the first week on the forum

Thats a good price too. Is that you picking them up at the mill or a retailer? I cannot get them that low even on pre-byy, close but not quite at that. They are very consistent pellets and have been for the last 3 years (of burning in my stove). I've had no bad bags at all. All nicely packaged and double wrapped on good pallets. They must have a totally automated pack line, every skid is packaged just like the previous one.

That is retail at Do it Best hardware store that was listed on their site. I haven't cleaned the stove since Monday eve. And have mixed in two bags of the old stuff, amazing.

I lost a son Monday nite unexpectedly and would had to have flipped the elec. switch and forgot about heating with pellets this week if not for the Somersets eliminating all the problems. Been a tough week... Spent a little extra time on here for distraction.

My condolences. At least your pellet worries are gone. I always hope my kids outlive me. So far so good plus 4 grand daughters.

Ya, you don't plan for this deal. Sorry to interrupt with that, it kind of popped out as my thoughts are a bit jumbled right now. Didn't mean to hijack...
