Two 500 Gallon Propane Tanks, or One 1,000 Gallon?

I find that with a little extra digging, I can place a 1,000 gallon propane tank on end where I thought I'd be limited to space two 500 gallon tanks on end.

Besides the extra plumbing that two tanks would require can you think of any other benefit of having one tank?

Would you expect stratification to be better with one tank on end, or two tanks on end and plumbed in series?

Seems like two tanks in series would provide better stratification, but I have no data. Certainly a single tank has less surface area per gallon and therefore less standby loss, all other things being equal.

One item you may also want to consider is the weight of the one tank. For a number of reasons I'm going with two 500 gallon tanks. One reason is that I didn't feel entirely comfortable with 10,000lbs+ being isolated to two spots on my poured floor. In theory it should have worked fine but over time I felt like I'd be asking for a cracked floor.

Two 500's helps me reduce the weight to just over 5000lbs each. More comfort level for me....
