went out and bit the bullet today and purchased the US stoves 6041 today! man that thing weighs a beast. but me and the wife got it off the truck in 2 ft of snow and up 10 steps and in the living room ! ( my guts are hangin out now! LOL) gonna do the install in the a.m/ ( Lord willing) those if ya that own this make stove , yall will have to walk me through the stupid questions. thanks fellers for all the direction and advice. if this thing runs like it weighs ill be tickled pink!

How is your back feeling 10 steps with any pellet stove is a bit much without at least a hand truck and some help?

Were you able to get it installed?

Some folks here want to see some pics when you get a chance.

I'm one of them, but then, I'm here as well. I own a 39 which is very similar except for the firmware, the fuel feed and the stirrer drive, all improvements with the possible exception of the stirrer drive (my opinion, maybe not others).

They are good units, require a learning curve but once you get the hang of it's quirks, it heats with abandon and runs like a top. I'm on my 3rd year and it's always running pedal to the metal...and then some. Right now, I have my PPH at 5.50 which is a half pound an hour above the factory high setting and it's cooking just fine.

I've run pits. straight pellets, straight corn, soybeans and this year 10-15% pellets and the balance in corn. Corn gives the best output and the pellets keep the clinkers manageable.

Like my sig line says...14 years now. I've been roasting a long time. Not because it's green either. Because I'm cheap. I would have put up another avatar but being new, I didn't want to offend anyone. :roll: I'm into match target and I have a class 3 so there are a few interesting guns around to take pictures of. Being cheap is why I bought a 39 in the first place. I was getting tired of being limited to a pellet only appliance (11 years on an Englander old style 25 PDV) and I wanted flexibility so when we redid the farmhouse, I replaced the appliance as well. I looked at some high end units but I'm handy (I had to be with the old 25) so I bought the cheap ugly appliance.

I read bad and good about USSC's but my personal experience has all been good. I believe the trick, if you will, to having a relatively trouble free experience is proper maintenance and keeping it clean, the appliance and the venting. I clean the appliance every 2 days without fail and the venting monthly. I average 200 bushel of 15%RM corn and a pallet and a half of hardwood pellets per year and keep the barn at 68-70. I run outside air and let the appliance think for itself with the exception of fueling. USSC uses algorithms to trim the fueling ratio's from HR1 to HR9 so if you adjust the fueling on the high end, the chip recalculates the algorithms for the entire range, especially handy when you run on a remote, like I do.

This is a nicely arranged forum. I've lurked for some time and finally decided to get my feet wet.
 
hey fellers its up an running, and BOY is she putting out the heat! house is at 75 degrees and I'm loving every minute of it. im playing with the fuel right now. got the corn 60% and pellets 40% its in CR 3 right now every thing else i left alone after playing with it some. the agitator i got cut down a couple notches and it seems like its doing some better since i did that. i got the draft open about 3/8 of an inch. any suggestions fellers on any combination of settings to try or is this a kinda trial and error deal?
 
Me, I'd let the firmware run the appliance.. The 41 firmware is better than the 39 and the 39 is pretty good. Depending on fuel cost, you can cut the pellets to 10% and achieve the same result, little buildup on the stirrer.

You'll need a shop vac and a drywall bag and you need to clean it regularly. As it loads with fly ash, it will produce less heat per pound used.
 
Good news preacher, some of us were wondering how it was going.

I figured you might not have been able to get out of bed the next morning after getting that critter up the stairs.

Keep it clean and feed it regularly and you'll get plenty of heat.
 
well i woke up this morning and my house was WARM !!! so far so good. Hey sidecar, wonder how itd do if i use 95 corn 5 oyster shell? yall ever tried this? my wife turned it down to CR-2 a little while ago cause 78 degrees is plenty warm , and it ate quite a bit of fuel last nite? how much consumption should i see per say.. 24 hours?

i noticed about an hour ago the stove started to speak ( metal to metal) when the auger would dump corn into the firepot. is that normal or what. seems like it started doing it with the newest batch of corn/pellet mix i just put in. any help? im sure its the auger doing it sounds like it needs oil or something. its feeding without a hitch , just sounds bad
 
I haven't burned corn since last year but I occasionally hear some grinding and knashing. I consider it normal. Never posed a problem. You could try running some straight pellets for a day and see if noise fades. I don't remember any real bad noises when I was running corn though. Good luck.

well i took the side off and watched and listened real close and i found where my noise is coming from! its where the stirrer is touching the fire pot. squeak squeak. lol once the weather breaks ill let her shutdown and readjust the firepot. no big deal at all!

I've never run the agitator higher than the 1 setting. I figure the less yiour stir it up the better it will burn.

boys shes burning like charm. i let it go out yesterday evening and gave her a good cleaning, then fired her right back up. purring like a kitten and throwin the heat. using bout 90% corn 10% american wood fibers hardwood. running CR2 and its almost too hot so we dropped back to CR1 . still keeps the house 73 degrees on the lowest setting and it still only 25 degrees outside. now for more good news.................. went our co op( southern States) yesterday. i got corn for 8.78 per HUNDRED and American wood pellets for 4.59 per bag. had a 5$ coupon and wlaked away with plenty of heat for the weekend and then some.
 
Don't know about them 100 pound sacks o' corn (last time I had to contend with 100 pound sacks was unloading salt you can have at it) , you aren't runnin' a little operation on the side are ya preacher?

I don't want to see the link on Drudge with the label Revenuers find shine operation in the back room of a Virginian church or Local pastor discovered running a still hidden inside a corn stove in a gunsmith shop.

Sounds like you are settling into to the heating thing and things are working out for you.
 
i noticed something today; if i run over 90 % corn and keep the unit on Cr-1 it will go out sometimes? maybe i need to up the draft setting? but when i put it on Cr-2 it purrs like nobody's business. ( i just like the Cr-1 setting becuase it barely uses any fuel and still heats the house comfortably. any suggestions to start tweakin with it?

i just wanted to say that i have been waiting all season to save enough money to buy a us stove 6041 Insert. I have done more research than i can remember on all of the pellet/multi fuel inserts on the market. i started this process to save on burning oil in boiler in basement. not only is the 6041 insert the cheapest stove i could find i liked the btu's/hopper size/multi fuel etc. i also noticed the 6039/6041 insert weighs 50lbs more than other manufacturers. i have no idea why this is and have chaulked it up to better materials used. reading all of your experiences has made me feel so much better about purchasing the 6041 Insert. you guys provide unique support to solving problems that may occur. thank you and i cant wait to purchase my stove and including all of you in the installation and heating experience. thanks again. without your knowledge i would be on a small island without a clue. rook26

Great to hear ya got some help rook! IMHO you cant go wrong with the 6041. so far ( knock on wood) mine is running like a top! the fellers on here have been a great help to me and if you listen to them closely you will learn alot and also it will spare you some cold nights! have a good day and welcome to the Club!
