vermont wood pellets

haven't heard much about these this year. how are they burning? the reason I ask is because I am looking ahead to next year and want to reload my stash with a low ash softwood. My go to blazers are going extinct with the company closing and I need a new go to pellet that is reasonably priced with low ash. I can get vts for 270 per ton however I have never tried them and wanted folks thoughts on it. I bought three tons of blazers without trying them based off good reviews and wasnt dissapointed. my stove doesn't seem to be to finicky with what I feed it just the extra cleanup with garbage pellets got old quick. thanks

Mill is shut down until late this month according to reports. Home and Hearth in Hampton, NH is a dealer that usually has spring sales. Most reviews are positive.

Vermonts are an exceptional pellet, just a bit pricey for some folks. If you didn't follow the thread earlier this month regarding Okanagan Golds, there is a guy selling them for a great price on craigslist. https://www.hearth.com/talk/threads/newton-nh-okanagan-gold-240-ton-on-craigslist.153745/ They are a 100% softwood pellet made from yellow pine. I bought 2 tons as did several folks here. I'm on the North Shore of Mass as well and he delivered promptly. I burned a few bags and I'm very impressed. Just an option for you....

Okies were nice and hot (I got 3 tons from the guy and I burned a few test bags a couple weeks ago). I have an oven thermometer set up on the P43; it hangs off the top and is directly in the airstream - although an inch or so away from the opening. These easily hit 25* higher temp than the PTL's that I have been running in that stove most of the time. That is on a T-stat setting of 72* and a feed rate of 3 (same as what I run the PTL's at).

Ash was less than most, but I can't say for sure as nothing I've run in the P43 has produced much ash, so it could be the stove itself. I clean off just a bit of ash off the lip once a day - just to soothe my neatness sensibilities.

That guy delivered to me at 70 miles away. If you order 3+ tons, he may work with you on delivery price. IIRC, he cut it by a couple of dollars for me (not much, but any savings are good). I was happy with the price, the guy is really nice (as is his lady) and the pellets were worth it - especially considering I paid almost as much for PTL's, FSU's and ThermaGlo's last fall.

The ash content is extremely low, you won't be disappointed. He will work with you on the delivery price if you buy multiple tons. He knows his way around the north shore as he works in Ipswich and Hamilton frequently. He's a member here now but give him a call....

I burned 1 ton of Okanagen Gold and 1 ton of Vermont this year and while the Vermont's are very good I'd have to say that the Okanagen's are a little bit better. I'd say heat output was about equal with the Okanagen's being a little cleaner, also cheaper and easier to find.

This is my second season with the Vermonts and I am pleased. Low ash good heat.

I bought 2 tons of these pellets and to be honest I would not buy them again.Very small about the size of a pencil eraser, and for me alot more ash than the Lacretes or Lignetics I burned last year. At first sight and for the first few bags I thought I had made a good choice for the year but as time went on I was not to happy with them.

I buy at the same place. Good people. The one thing I have to say is the Vermont stick to my hopper. No amount of cleaning, waxing, tape on seams, etc. keep them from sticking. I bought a ton of Lacrete from them. $270/ton. Same amount of heat, more ash. Have to clean it a bit more but no sticking. What good is a 40lb hopper if it shuts off after burning 30lbs.

Interesting comments on the Vermont WP's. Now that 'my' fav Okie DF's are no longer, I'm back to searching again.
My local shop believes the VWP's are now they're best pellet.

Burning VWP's right now. Good heat, burn cleaner than most pellets I've used, but I concur with their stickiness in the hopper.

Using VWP (bought 9/2015) and Oakie Golds (bought last spring from the guy on CL). To me both burn about the same heat wise, seems to be a bit less ash with the VWPs.

I'm working on ton #2 of Vermonts. They are outstanding. The pellets are smaller than they were last year. The heat is as good as any pellet I've burned and the ash is minimal. They are by far, my favorite.
