I have a small problem. My wife and I just bought our first house. The house is 2200 sqft cape with dormers. It has a finished daylight basement with the master bedroom, main floor, and 2 bedrooms upstairs. We need to heat all 3 floor and are looking to with a pellet stove.

my original plan was I purchased a vistaflame vf170 and placed In in the basement to heat the whole house. I was going to purchase a heat distribution kit and create duct work to heat to registers on the main floor. figuring the heat would naturally flow to the upstairs. This should heat my whole house.

When we placed the 170 in the basement we found it to have a bad auger motor. the stove is extremely loud when running. so loud we had trouble sleeping. the manufacture states I have 2 options, I can replace the auger motor in the 170, or I can bring it back to the store and swap it was another stove (vf 55).

would we be able to heat the whole house from the main floor with the 55, or will I be better off keeping the 170 in the basement and hopefully becoming used to the noise? does anyone have any experience with the 55. I am looking for a stove to be somewhat quiet since if we do install it on the main floor it will be placed in the living room.

I am kind of stuck on what to do. I have had some trouble with the stove shop and am not sure if they are lying to me or not. are you able to hear the auger turn on the 170,? can you hear the auger turn on the 55.

sorry for the long post, but I have a lot going through my head on this.

any input is appreciated.

Larger stoves inherently noisier.Heat will not go downstairs.I would consider 2 smaller stoves, some new ones are really quiet(I am told).
