Hip surgery went pretty good. Had to stay an extra day in the hospital as even the doctor didn't make it in. We didn't get that much snow (a foot; more or less in some places) but it came almost horizontally. Also it was the heavy wet variety which makes it more difficult to clear roads and up until noon Wednesday the roads drifted back shut shortly after the snow plows went through.
But this morning after a few surgeries my doctor showed up in the room and soon we were headed home. That was exciting in itself because my wife was sitting right behind the steering wheel and I was hugging the passenger door! All roads were not plowed yet and lots of those that were plowed were drifting in again. But we made it home (a 40 mile drive) and after taking some anti-anxiety pills I got settled down. lol
The trip home did stir things up a bit but I guess that is to be expected. But the first thing that hit me was when I opened the front door and felt that wonderful wood heat
!!
At the hospital I could hardly believe how cold the floors were. Because I suffer from cold feet and legs to begin with you can imagine what I went though. It was such a welcome feeling to come home and just knowing that I'd soon be warm again was worth the wait. I simply don't know if I could survive heating with any thing but wood heat any more. This just cements my feelings on how to keep warm in the winter; wood heat is the way to go.
btw, my wife had no problems keeping the house nice and warm even though she spent hours away from the house. She did have a more interesting time burning down the coals but did okay. We usually turn the draft open full just before the burn is down to the coaling stage but with her being gone so long that was not possible. I told her if it were a problem that I would forgive her if she did have to shovel a few coals out but that did not have to be done. The Fireview came through with flying colors....and hopefully I did too.
