Merry Christmas all. I recently came into some money from my parents and I figure I can change my old Wood Stove to a new Pellet stove. The stove presently has a 6' pipe and I would love to use the same pipe since money is tight. I can probably stretch my budget to $2000 by placing the last 500 on a card but would love to stay at the 1500 mark. What pellet stove can I get for that price? Please help!!

If you can wait until spring, it will get you a Breckwell Big E used two winters in excellent condition. Included with the stove for $1500 would be 17 feet of 4" vent pipe, 3" to 4" adapter, 4" clean out T, 2 90 elbows, and a vent cap. I am planning on switching to an outdoor wood burner next year. I can meet you in Toledo OH!

Katwill,
US Stoves have a few models you may be able to use at or under $1,500. Also I know that there are refurbished Englanders on the web that come in under your budget.

I've been seeing used Quads for as little as 1000, a year or 2 old. I just unloaded a Glowboy for 950. There are
lots of bargains out there, shop smart. In this economy evryone is looking for a deal, so the only way to sell anything
is to give a good deal, I found out the hard way.

Didn't Tiger Woods get in trouble for using that same line????

Anyway... Schmeg will tell you that a new Austroflamm can be had for $2250.00 delivereed to your door... about 45% off IIRC... www.pellethead.com the dealer is discontinuing carrying those stoves. Parts are available but there's no warranty offered... good stoves from what I've been told.

With the tax rebate it's a deal that would be hard to beat.

I got a whitfield advantage II for $200 freestanding stove off Craigs list. That was the good news. The bad news was $400 for pellet stove pipe from Lowes and a farm store that sold pellet stove pipe. If you do Craigslist try to find a deal that includes the pipe. If you can do some mecanical work you'll save big. I'm not a proponent of buying new anything as you'll do constant battle trying to get dealer to honor any kind of warranty. I try to find a stove that generic replacement parts are available for off the shelf and can download the manual and parts book online. Do some research and you'll see what I mean. If you do buy used first thing tear it apart and clean the thing from top to bottom inside the firebricks especially. bjr23

You can get an Englander at HD, Lowes or TSC in your price range. Go to a stove shop to get the 6"to 3" pipe adapter and hook her up where the wood stove sat. The only thing with using the 6" single wall is you really have to seal all the connections good when using a pellet stove or you'll get some smoke in the room. The biggest culprit will be one of those adjustable elbows, I used a welded seam one(pic attached) for a good seal, and it lets the stove sit closer to the wall.

Check out the Englanders at Lowes/Home Depot. I do not have one myself, but
they are reasonably priced and you cannot beat their customer service support.

we got a few demo models you may be interested in that are priced in that range: Bosca spirit, Lopi Leyden, Lopi Yankee, Harman P38, and a Lopi Pioneer.... also got a couple Kozi KSH-120's left

My back thanks me for it every day! I recommend the P43 to people all the time, unfortunately it's out of the OP's price range.

Oh and I'm letting a friend demo the Oakwood right now in hopes he will buy it, he still enjoys all fun things that go along with burning wood. Man, did I get spoiled on those 40 pound bags!

I would go this route. Unless you LOVE to tinker with stuff, research how to fix stuff online and spend hours on the phone waiting for a human to diagnose something for you, skip the USSC stoves. Some work great for a year or two, then the folks start coming into my store asking for help and apologizing for buying something that has switches, snap disks, circuit boards, fans augers..ect mixing that up with heat and a pipe leading to the elements instead of saving up and buying something decent.

Work out a deal with Kinsman stoves. You'll get a quality product and good customer service.
