Ok..I am new to the pellet stove world..got a stove CHEAP...and have been restoring it witht he help of members here...(thanks guys!!)...I pretty much dissembled it...freed up the feed tube ..new gasket etc...I took the auger motor loose in the process...and now that I put it back on..I am confused about how the long bar that sticks out of the auger motor should be..in the photo you can see the metal bar between the auger motor wires...its just a flat piece of metal mounted to the auger motor so that the motor cant just rotate around and around...I am assuming other pellet stoves have this....but maybe not?....the way it is now....the weight of the auger motor d bar can sometimes make the feed auger tube roll backwards...I could position the bar so that the weight of the auger motor and bar would only make the auger motor turn forward..so the bar would be angled to the right...and down..instead of to the left and down... .I actually put it back the way I found it ..but it seems wrong and I think the prior owner didn't care for the stove properly...so he may have had the bar on the wrong side...I WOULD GREATLY appreciate your help...I am so damn close to firing this stove up now and feeling good about the restoration...but confused about how to install the auger motor...

First of all, welcome to the forum. Secondly, you really need to tell us what stove you have. Best thing to do is to put it into your signature line.

Its an older horizon eclipse..and its really starting to look good...all controls working...auger tube turns nice and free...and my question might be pretty general....I am assuming most augers have a straight bar coming off them...to prevent the motor from turning..but also have some play in them......but should the weight of the auger bar pull the auger feed forward or backward....it can be installed either way...so that gravity on the auger bar could rotate the auger feed tube motor forward...or backward...just do not want to make a mistake at this point...I am awfully close!!..

Oh, I remember you & this stove now.

I have no idea what this "bar" you speak of is. Maybe post some pics. Auger motors of the type that are typical for pellet stoves do not move at all while there is no power to them.

imacman...I added a pic..and some more details...the bar can be seen between the wires in the photo...just a flat piece of metal that prevents the auger motor from going round and round..

Well, the pic helps a little. I can't tell if that auger motor is something completely from what the more modern stoves use, but in any event, I'd position the bar so the auger cannot roll backwards at all. Ideally, it should be positioned so it won't move in either direction.

The Avalon Astoria I used to have had a "U" shaped bracket that the auger motor fit in-between......it allowed the motor to move MAYBE 1/8-1/4", at most.
