New Construction, with new direct vent gas fireplace with dual blower fans as primary heat source for 3 plus months now. This morning noticed a small pile of ashes directly under the vent pipe. They are sitting on top of the decorative glass rocks. Looks like they came from the pipe. There are no decorative logs in the FP. The direct vent is vertical through the roof. Is this normal or an indication of a problem. We run the flame on 1/3 and fan on 2/3 on a thermostat. Any advice or shared experience is greatly appreciated.

They shouldn't be in there. There may have been a label
on the inside of one of the venting sections that was finally
affected by the heat, & detached from the pipe section,
or there may have been a preservative coating on the venting.
The only way to tell is to get in there & examine the debris.
Most of the stuff that falls down in there is usually paint chips
from the inside of the fire box, but they are generally black.
Call your installing dealer. It should still be under warranty.

An update for you. It was excess gasket medium from the stove pipe sleeve joints. The installer was generous with the compound and the excess on the inside finally heated up enough to burn off and fall down as ash. He said that gas fireplace being used for heat (vs occasional ambiance) that have a straight pipe up can experience this since it gets hot enough to do it . Good to go! Thanks again for your insight and prompt for us to reach out to our installer. Cheers.
