I would suggest one of these instead, http://midnitesolar.com/products.php?menuItem=products&productCat_ID=23&productCatName=Surge Protection Devices their clamp voltage is lower than most other surge protectors and their surge rating is higher than the linked square D unit. I had an Intermatic that allowed a utility surge past it and fried an inverter. There are several online sources for the Midnight Solar SPDs, I use this company http://www.solar-electric.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=spd&cat=0 to buy them. If you take an Intermatic apart the difference int he component size is significant.

Ideally if you are paranoid about surges, install a 120 volt unit on the sensitive electronics circuit and a 300 volt unit on the main panel. Of course no suppressor is guaranteed to do anything against a direct lighting strike.

I bought one from Duke Energy a few years back that goes on back of the meter with the meter on top. Works great. I used to have to replace motors in my fridge and had AC motor problems all the time. I was getting too many spikes coming in particularly from storms. My electronics and motors all good. Never had to replace motors since.
