My brother has owned a Winslow PS40 for several years. The stove is kept very clean and in excellent working order, burning about 4 tons per year with little or no problems. Last week he had to replace the auger motor. The change went well, but it seems the stove is running way too hot. The side doors are too hot to touch. This doesn't seem right as one of the doors houses the control panel. The feed light turns on every 2 or 3 seconds. He typically runs the stove on number 4 during the coldest periods. Anyone have any thoughts?

It's possible, but there are two things that make me believe it is something else. First the new auger motor came from the manufacturer as original equipment, not after market --- all the numbers match. Second, the problem stays regardless of the heat setting --- the side panels are way too hot. At this point, I am afraid we will fry the control panel.

Mine is the same way when run on the higher settings. Can't leave your hand on the door for too long, when opening, etc. There is an over-temp switch that will shut the stove down if it gets too hot. It's located on the same side as the control panel and up on the square tube above the convection blower. I'm sure they can "go bad" but the switches do have a re-set switch on them too if they would trip for some reason. I'm thinking this is normal when the stove is run on 4 or 5 - but I know what you mean about the panel getting too hot. Had the same thoughts and chalking it up to "normal"; and that the boards were engineered to take the heat.
