I think this is ash. Hopefully not poplar

I'd also guess ash. The white ash in my region very white on the inside, but the bark on yours looks just like ash.
 
Cut a round off about 16" long. If it's light it's polar.
 
I’m gonna throw a monkey wrench in the works and say walnut. Ash is pretty much gone in CT, and never really had that dark center. Bark crosshatch looks like walnut too.

After Poplar logs are cut the center turns brown like that.
 
Looks like maybe ash and poplar. Is any of the bark missing? Are there any D shaped holes in the bark?
Ash looses it bark when sick, also gets those D shaped holes in the bark.
