Question:

What is the best brand of wood pellet stove to buy in terms of reliability, maintenance, heating effectiveness and cost?

How do the brands of wood pellet stoves compare? For example, Lopi and Whitfield claim to be the top 2 brands. Avalon claims to be rated "best buy" by Consumer Digest.

Answer:

Both of these units will serve you well. They are both into their "3rd generation" models and all of the bugs have been worked out. You should choose based in the dealer in your area who is likely to provide the best service.

Update 12/2007 Whitfield has been discontinued and they wound up having a ton of problems with their new photoeye technology. There are still numerous brands that have proven quality and reliability.
