I'm thinking about a Buck 91 as an insert for my fireplace. Reviews on Hearth are all 5 star but they are older. Anyone have one newer that would like to comment? Any other recomendations??
I just got a Buck 91 last week. AWESOME. I am the neighbor LOL. Yes, it is both an insert and freestanding. The guy who owned it before me used it for an insert and I converted it to freestanding. It is an awesome stove. I had looked at other stoves, but Kentucky seems dominated with Buck dealers compared to others. I wanted to give Blaze King a chance, but only dealer I could find was in Tn. There are numerous Buck dealers right here in Kentucky. I got mine used for 600 bucks off Craigslist. Where I live there is a dealer that sells them for 2199. How many sq ft do you have? This is a big stove and puts out massive heat. I am heating 3600 sq ft with it. I would hate to think what it would do to 2000 sq ft or less.
I also got one off of CL 2 years ago for $500. First year I wasn't at all impressed. Did a "slammer' install because my old stove was installed like that and I didn't know any better and had crappy wood that I was grabbing anyplace I could. Last year I installed a liner and had a wood supply that was mostly pine and sweetgum but at least is was seasoned for a year. This year I'm burning 2-2 1/2 year old oak and all I can say is WOW. This sucker is huge and if you load it up with good wood it will put out great for 10-12 hours and still have plenty of coals left 4 hours after that. It will burn the ashes so completely and is so big I only have to empty every couple of weeks even burning 24/7. This is the year I finally feel like I "know' my stove and it is doing everything I could ask of a stove. Mine is installed as an insert with a blockoff plate and no surround.I'm thinking about a Buck 91 as an insert for my fireplace. Reviews on Hearth are all 5 star but they are older. Ralph-
Check out the Lennox stoves Gibbs Hardware in Grayson, KY. Last fall, I was back and forth on the Buck 91 or 94 and ended up going with the Lennox Grandview and couldnt be more satisfied.
