I cracked my stock handle on one of my 036's, and because I was already in the process of rebuilding it? I decided to put a new Tank/Handle on it.

Surprisingly, it is a very nice fit and finish. It came with a "Flippy" cap, so the saw will be a "Hybrid". As an 036 should not have Flippies :) Comes with a new fuel line, filter, and cap (which separately, would be about half the cost of the handle).

Here are a couple pics. The rebuild is just waiting on the New Cylinder and Piston (aftermarket also, but Nikisal plated). With a new air filter, impulse line, fuel line, fuel filter, handle/tank, cylinder, piston/ring, pull cord, spark plug, and a couple other little nic nacs, it will be damn near New Again :) I even put the Factory stickers on the Aftermarket, to make it look Legit.

Will be ready for "Sale"... The new owner will hopefully be a happy man..

Don't know how many have thought about buying the cheaper aftermarket version, and not done it? But everything went together like clockwork :) Full review once saw is together and running

Looks nice Dex, glad to hear the aftermarket handle fits. I thought about putting one of those on my pimped out 036 "Pro" beater, but I was afraid it would look too pretty to "beat" any more and I'd have to park it on the shelf with the other gems in storage and switch to using something else. :p Why are you going to sell it after doing all this work on it? Looks like your saw inventory is getting dangerously low already............... I have a deep suspicion that a brand new "modern" saw will be heading your way soon!

Speaking of getting low on saws Boog!! I just won an auction for a..... 036 (another one?!?!) ;)

Yep. Buyer says it runs and will give it a 14 day guarantee to check it over.

I may be buying another one of these rear handles for this one. I already have a new fuel filter, air filter, impulse and fuel line for this saw.

Oh and Boog, I may be calling you soon. I started to work on my buddies 031av and I can't for the life of me get the impulse line on it and the intake boot? How the hell do you get the impulse on, in that tight of an area?

FML... :(

IIRC it wasn't all that bad. I'd have to look at mine once I get home to jog my memory however...

Very carefully, so as not to puncture the boot! I attach the boot to the cylinder first and then pull it through to the carb with rounded tip needle nose and a popsicle stick for prodding and poking and such. MM showed a good method of attaching strings to the boot to help pull it through. Long thin needle nose help get the impulse on when the parts are close together and I gently grab the tip with the pliers and push it on. I have quite a few different profile needle nose pliers. Its finally warm enough to paint ......... I'm painting the hoard of 031AVs right now. Been busy lately fixing up my new toy, a 1970ish Ford 3400 backhoe.

Took a look at mine. I recommend the string method for sure (and so does Stihl ;) )and for the impulse line I used a long pick to guide the hose into the hole, then pulled it through with pliers until it seats. These saws are nowhere near as nice to work on as an 036 or my MS460's, that's for sure.

Dex, I think there is a pic of the string method in my 460 build thread. (the OEM saw)

Thanks!! I have only had the 260 in pieces, the 036, and I took the covers and muff of the 460. Modern saws are Much easier to work on :)

My other 036 should be here Friday (gonna check out, rebuild what's needed, and sell). The Piston, cylinder, and rings came in today for the 036 that I am rebuilding now. Time to put it all back together this weekend.

I hope to have the 031AV done for my buddy also. That little impulse line is a Huge PITA! If the other 036 isn't to bad, I should have all 3 saws done by Sunday night? The only one that NEEDS done, is the one with the aftermarket handle/tank. As its sold already. Owner is awaiting saw (knows full well what's being done to it, as he is a Member here). This thread is his way of seeing the whole process. I hope he is happy with it.

I had it sold until I decided to check the compression after sending him a video cutting cookies. After getting around 120 psi, I pulled the Muff. Only to find a little transfer on the cylinder and what appeared to be a Cold Seize on the exhaust side? I already had agreed on a price, so air ordered the parts to fix it. At no extra cost.

Trying to pay it forward. And in doing so, this member also paid it Forward to some else. In this world, finding honest people (other than Hearth.com, because we are the best of the best ;)) can be a challenge these days. So doing a neighbor a favor, giving a buddy a hand, helping a stranger, or listening to a Sibling/Spouse/Etc goes a long way in my book.

Just to finish this thread up. Here is the saw finished.

It ended up in the hands of Big Donnie Brasco (forum member).

Turned out pretty nice. Overall fit and finish was awesome. Everything lined up and fit perfect.

The only downfall (not really) is that it has one old school oil cap and a new floppy cap. So anyone who knows saw, will know its not original. It's a Hybrid of sorts ;) I didn't like flippies at 1st, but they are growing on me ;em
