Oops, wrong thread!

pretty nice calculator for cost of running different wattages of electric water heaters at different electricity prices
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-much-does-it-cost-to-run-water-heater.html

our electric is a little over 17 cents per kwh. pretty steep.

i insulated all the hot water pipes in the basement. it's making a huge difference.
i read somewhere that you can easily spend more money on lost heat than what it actually cost to heat the water you really use.

we have a propane heater.
between the two of us, we have a very low usage rate.
i don't think we are going to switch to electric though.
not at our rates.

A friend of mine who is a HVAC tech tells me with the new NG heaters you can wire a 110 volt timer into it and have it pretty much on demand. ie: 6:00-8:00am and 7:00-9:00pm for those with families. With a blanket I'm sure the cost would less the $20.00 a month.

Wow,that's funny.I did the exact same thing not to long ago.Prior to that,it took 2yrs. before I needed oil again.I have an oil fired HWH that I wouldn't part with.SORRY ARABS!!!!!
