I am new to the pellet scene and thanks to the info on this forum I will have a Mt vernon AE installed in a week. By reading this forum for the last 2 weeks - my wife says I have a problem - I know that different stoves work better with different pellets so I am asking if anyone with a Mt Vernon AE has used any of the following pellets because I would like to have a stash ready to go when I am finally operational. Here are some of my choices from a local dealer...
Barefoot - $309/ton
Canawick - $259/ton
Cubix - $289
Lacrete - $299
Okanagan - $299
Spruce point - $279
Trebio - $259

From the info I gathered locally this is very reputable dealer. I would like to start burning with "good" pellets so I can get the hang of operating the stove before I start experimenting and deal hunting so if there are any other Mt vernon AE owners out there that have any input on these pellets I would love to hear it.

Never burned any of those, but some of those on your list are highly-coveted.

Enjoy your new stove. :)

FWIW, the multi-fuel stoves like the AE will burn practically any pellets without any issue according to what I've read on this forum while doing my research before I ordered mine.

I have owned a Mt Vernon insert for five, years, have tried only one of the type you have list Spruce point, It really hasn't matter what pellet I burn, the differences is the ash in the pan. All the pellets produce good heat.

I have a Mount Vernon AE insert and have burned Barefoots and Okanagans from your list. No problems with either. In fact no problems with any pellet in this stove including Hamer Hot Ones, Stove Chow, Fireside Ultras, Green Team.

Can't help with pellet selection as we don't have those around here.

I haven't found any that won't burn, some just produce more ash and less heat.

Congrats on the new stove, and welcome to the forum.

Welcome to our group. Got some pictures of the new toy? We like pictures! ;-)

There is a thread going on the Trebio's. Many seemed pleased with them. Might be worth a trip for a couple of trial bags to see how they do. But your Mt V. is a multifueler. Should burn about anything you want to feed it!

I've been burning cubex in mine for a couple yrs, good heat and no problems. I did find some that were longer than I would like, but that stove will eat them up with no problem.

The AE doesn't seem to mind long pellets. I was making an effort to break them up at first but no longer do, haven't had any problems.

It dont mind them, but you can sure hear the Auger snaping them in half. I will have to reconsider buying green supreme again they are always snapping irritates the wife

You burn some Trebio's yet?

I wish I had access to Spruce Pointe, burned 20 bags in 08.

Well, I sure jinxed myself here.

I woke up this morning to the disturbing sound of my heat pump running. I have the heat pump thermostats set to 65/68 so that if the stove shuts down for some reason they will kick on to keep the house from getting cold.

I went downstairs and found the thermostat display reading auger jam. I checked things out, found nothing seemed wrong at first. I opened the front door and shoved the micro vac hose attachement up the drop tube and a whole mess of pellets came pouring out, enough to fill the burnpot all the way to the top. Among them were a whole bunch of long pellets.

I scooped most of them out, broke up the long pellets and dumped them back in the hopper. I gave it a quick vac job and buttoned it all up. Stove fired right up and has been fine since.

I've been happiest with softwood pellets, mainly because the autoclean shut-down doesn't happen as often (fewer shutdowns = more heat on cold nights!). I'm currently burning Okies. I got two different "types" from the dealer when I got my delivery of 4 pallets. Three pallets were a white bag - apparently older pellets that had been sitting around (and they were on sale WHY?????). These bags have lots of long pellets - knock on pellets, no auger jams yet. The clear bags are just the opposite - all very short pellets. Both burn great though, with pretty minimal ash, but I am saving the short ones for the coldest nights "just in case".

Last year, I burned the Vermont Wood Pellets and loved 'em. I've also burned LGs and loved 'em. I recommend either if you ever get your hands on them.

My goal is to stockpile softwood pellets for next year once I find a local source during the offseason...
