Just wanted to post a poll and see how hard people are working their pellet stoves throughout the year. Granted this will vary greatly based on geographic location but it will give us a rough idea how often people use their stoves. I tend to burn mine as soon as the temperature drops into the high 50's or low 60's.

Voted nine months, although it can be very intermittent during the shoulder season.

Barely used it when I first got the house, then I got the amost 300 dollar oil bill for a single month. Now I run it 10 hours a day during the week and 24/7 on the weekend. It's my primary heat source basically.

I can't vote, My stove never works hard to keep us warm. Its never above the mid heat setting even in the extreme cold season.

I think he's asking how many months per year you use it, not how hard you run it.

We then, That's like asking how long winter's gonna will last? No??

I'll just say 8 months then! October till May usually.

Edit: My primary source of heat is the pellet eater, So the whole season is warmed with pellet fire!

Since this is my first season and I got mine in December, I voted 6 months. That's how long I've run my heat in the past - October to April.

Heating season is usually October through April so 7 but I answered 6 just to toss a wrench into the works.

Normally it gets started when the boss starts complaining. Once it is on it is rarely ever off.

Oh it was a nice balmy 0.3 °F this morning.

We just got our stove in December also, but I will anicipate running it Oct through april or may just like we used to run the furnace.

We run our stove 24/7 as our only heat.

so I voted 9 months.

As hard as she needs to work to keep house 75-80 when it's below 50 outside. And sometimes in summer in the "Ambiance mode" for romantic moments!! ;-)

Here in my piece of the earth where the sun never shines i've run it as early as sept and into june.from nov to april it's usually 24/7 except for cleanings.

Can't say since it's only been installed since Jan. 17! But each year I always try to hold turning the heat on (formerly oil) until Nov. 1. Next year I plan on running my pellet form Nov. 1 to mid-April -- so six months.

It's enabled to run anytime the temperature goes below 40 degrees. Above the the heat pump has the lead.

About 6 months... Give or take.....

But when they/it does run, I Never need to push them hard. Dont know if its the lay-out of my home (South facing, open floor plan), or the copious amounts of caulk and silocone, insulation, and the other 100 things I have done over the last 3-4 years to help the overall efficiency of the house (stopping heat loss).

This year has been Mild to say the least. Its 42° in Northeast Ohio right now. Crazy I tell ya... Crazy ;-P

Any time it is cool or damp. But not between mid June to mid August. love the heat. Really feels good to burn bio mas and not oil. I don't know what it is, but cleaning the stove and keeping up with the little bits of wear and tear is very self rewarding.

I use mine part of 8-9 mos. a year. We start on cool nights and mornings last of Sept/ first of Oct through cool nights and mornings first part of May. It is on a thermostat cycling on and off on mild nights/mornings so it does not run 24/7 on mild nights/mornings. Would rather use pellets than the heat pump whenever possible and get much better heat.

Fire it up Nov. 1st usually shut down mid March
we really enjoy cool weather
so maybe 4.5 months

October to early April. Wide open when it drops down below 15 degrees. Sometimes the heat exchanger scraper wont work beacuse the tubes swell up during these hot burns. Ive seen the painted casting surfaces reach 700 degrees during wide open.

Started burning on Oct. 20.....will probably stop around the beginning of April.

Oct to April... April has all types of ups and downs. 80 days to 30's at night!

My primary stove runs full time from November thru April. Keeps both
the basement and first floor comfortable until the outside temps get below 20 °F .
When needed, the backup stove on the first floor will get fired up as well to keep
the other end of the house from getting too cool.

I wish I had a 7 day weekend ;) I guess 24/2 doesnt quite sound right.

I run my stove non-stop in hi/lo mode on a programmable thermostat I installed except for when I shut it down to do a weekly cleaning. This is my first season. I moved into my home last December and the stove came with the house. One of the first things I did was purchase pellets. I managed to develop my pellet addiction before I even discovered this forum.

Hahahaha, good catch!

Wishful thinking on my part I guess.

I started heating with my primary stove in october usuall into mid march but last year well into april. In late dec it starts to get colder thats when I use my secondary stove to get us through the nights. This year my stove has been on the lowest heat settings.. its been a mild one here in ny. Oh and during the day it cycles on thermostat. at night my primary stays on thermostat and the secondary runs through the night 8pm to 5am
