I know Dennis is'nt a big proponent of mm's but being the curious guy I am I had to get one.
I cut two cords of oak two years ago and split them a little smaller in the hope I could burn it this year, sure enough I tested a few pieces and they're all around 20%, I split some maple and ash at the end of last winter that I wanted this shoulder season and that all tested 18-21%, I thought it might be lower but its good enough, the rest of the wood Im using this year is 2-3 years seasoned, Ill test it once I can get to it.
I tested some oak rounds I split yesterday that were in rounds over a year and they were near 30%, I split some hemlock I cut over the summer and has been sitting in rounds since was 25%, good for shoulder season next year. The wettest wood I have is some just split birch, 35%
heres the MM I bought at Lowes
