Having Issues with Installer, what to do?

Maybe he is already a member here, has read this thread and realised that he was in the wrong, or, partly in the wrong?
 
I Have been through a similar situation with a stove dealer..........My advice is : GET OUT, GET OUT, GET OUT.

He has shown you his colors. And that will be your experience with him in any customer service and or warranty issues that may arise in the future..................Trust me ........Its NOT worth it.

File a credit card dispute , get your money back and get it from a dealer that will service you with respect and sanity.
 
Well, I've been extremely busy making hay but I did find time to resolve all this.
I thought about a few of the options I had and decided that this was too small a piece of money and life is too short to get into very much negativity over this. I went back to Mervs shop and talked to Merv a bit. Wilf had told Merv what was wrong before Wilf went on holiday for a week but Wilf didn't tell me. Merv and his wife spent that week fretting, worrying and losing sleep over what my reaction would be when I found out. They imagined all kinds of worst case scenarios and while this doesn't excuse Mervs behaviour when I found out about the alcove and called him, it does explain it somewhat. He didn't apologize but he did let some money off the price of the parts and work done so far and I went home with my new Alderlea T-6. He has been completely friendly and polite since and Wilf is fine to finish the install.

That's good! It kinda sounds like he might be a member on here. That might explain the change of heart on mervs part.
 
Reverse the charges and run. He will then have the burden on him. He is not in a good position as the credit card company will side with you. By the time it's settled, he will be miserable chasing you for the money. You can offer a reasonable sum, document it in writing, and then walk when he refuses. He won't accept less than 100% and the court will see your good faith. Since you don't have the stove, you can't be expected to pay for it. It's too bad your correspondence wasn't via mail or e-mail. If need be...lawyer up.
 
A vendor can only do so much when he doesn't have your money and you don't have his product. I would send him a payment for the labor that you feel is fair...don't be too cheap. Walk after you've made things right for what he did give you.

What? Maybe I missed something here? It sounds like its been resolved.

What?

It sounds to me as if Matt W. acted in a commendable fashion, that made everybody's life easier and got the task accomplished. Would be great if all people worked things out reasonably. Don't know when we switched to a society when the answer was a combination of sue/threaten to sue/distrust /get angry. I've been really impressed throughout this thread that Matt is someone I respect and would love to have as a neighbor, love to have had my children grow up next door to and interact with.
 
Good to hear that your project can progress and you have the stove. Take some pictures and post them please. This sounds like a nice install.

How is your wood supply? The new stove is going to be happiest with dry wood.

Glad its working out for you. I hope this thread helped ............He probably read it and got scared !!! ...... I have seen this behavior before and it usually doesn't change, so heads up with this guy. Unfortunately there are some people that no matter what you do to be polite , they are unable be respectful and own their behavior. The fact that he didn't apologize for the way he treated you shows that he can't own it.............so again , heads up ............and good luck :)

I'm not concerned about moving forward with the install with Wilf. He doesn't work directly for Merv, he is a contractor that Merv hires for the installs and he's been great to deal with.

Sounds good. It should be a much warmer winter for you.
 
Matt, good to hear that every thing has worked out, and you will get your stove installed. Were you able to install it the way you originally intended?
Can't wait to see the pics.
 
Sounds like the problem is solved. Crank up a new thread Matt when the install is underway and you have some pics for us eye candy loving wood burners.
