Hi New to the forum and have a hopefully easy to answer question, I have a englander 25-pdv and just purchased a thermostat for it. The thermostat is a white rodgers 1f78-144 non pro. stat. it says it is mv compatible. when i hooked the stat up and reset the stove it never seems to leave high fire (or my setting 9.9) even after it gets to the desired temp it just keeps feeding pellets, (stat set at 68, house is at 72 and climbing) I know this stove is not meant to shut off but should go to low fire, what am i doing wrong here, PLEASE HELP im getting hot

Feeling the Heat
I'm not familiar with your stove, but two things come to mind. The first is the thermostat is not compatible with your stove and the second would be there's a problem with the wiring or connected improperly.

It is a 2 wire set up and englander says polarity is not an issue, the only thing i question when it comes to the stat is the letters the wires go to on the stat and what settings it needs to be on. right now i have one wire on RH and the other on W and it is also on electric mode and not gas which i think is correct, but maybe not. what really stumps me is englander has a stat test you can do through the stove which i did and it is showing that the stat is interacting with the stove fine but its not. so i dont know if it was the wrong type of stat would it still interact? ALSO WHAT REALLY STUMPS ME IS my stove comes from the factory with a jumper where the stat is to plug in to short it to run manually, if im not mistakin if this jumper is taken out the stove should just go to low fire and stay there, What makes me think it is a stove issue is I currently unhooked the stat and did not put the jumper back in to see if it would go to low fire and sure enough same deal stays at High fire. Im stumped.

With the jumper in the stove should go to high fire (or whatever your "normal" setting is). Once the stat is satisfied, it should drop to low fire. I would put your stat in the gas setting and try that. Most gas fireplaces are millivolt, perhaps that would help.

run this test with the stove shut down and cold
1. unplug the power cord
2. plug back in and quickly press the LOw Fuel Feed AND the Air On Temp buttons (2 fingers press both together) and release.
3. this should bring up a dash in the blower speed if the stat is calling for heat, or noting if it is not
so you want to adjust the stat up and down and see if this dash appears and disappears as you turn it up and down. if the dash does not do this then the stat and the board are not communicating.
now if this doesnt act as it should or you are still having an issue with it PM me a phone number i can have you contacted at and we will work with you to fix this

Thanks for the info. guys. I have already checked to see if the stat is communicating and the dash shows up and goes away as it should but still high fire. It stays at high fire even with the jumper out and the stat not hooked up. Any thoughts

Have you contacted Mike Holton via PM (this link will do that https://www.hearth.com/talk/members/stoveguy2esw.1187/ ) he head tech support guy at England Stove Works.
Looks like a possible controller issue.
The reason I asked about the low feed settings is you can get one heck of a fire if you have those cranked up as heat setting 1 (low) can be made a lot hotter.
Do not expect any change in the lights on the control panel or any change in the convection fan (room fan) as they do not change when the stove exits the high setting. The fire should however die down.
The other thing that can happen is that a number of t-stats need to be told they are in heat mode as they can also control a/c or dual unit systems. These t-stats can have several different actions depending upon how they are wired into the system. Some come with the heating and cooling sides tied together and need a jumper on the t-stat removed depending upon the mode the t-stat is set for and the wiring in the system.

changed some settings unhooked the stat and checked hooked back up and it seems to be working so far. only been running for a couple of hours but seems to be goin from low to high when calling for heat. thanks for the help everyone and thanks for the info Mike
