American Elm, I'm thinking...

I have one like that in my yard. I'm going with Elm, final answer ==c

American Elm

The bigger leaves threw me off. All the elms I've seen here have the smaller, more numerous leaves. What would they be? Winged? Red? Slippery? Or all 3 of those the same tree?

"Red" is a nickname for Slippery. Winged Elm from what I'm seeing is supposed to have smaller leaves "with yellow midvein." Also, "twigs are brownish and slender, often with two broad, corky wings." Indians called it Wahoo, a name which would work great. You can tell someone "I just cut and stacked some Wahoo." They might then ask "Wha...?? Who??" To which you reply "Correct." ==c The range for Winged look like we're on the northern edge here so I'll look for it...

Woody, see my pics on the thread about cutting this weekend snd see if you can ID that. I think it's some kind of elm but not sure.

Elmish looking leaf.

The asymmetrical base of the leaf is a give-away that it is American Elm.
