I just picked up a used Hearthstone Homestead stove and have a couple of questions.

- Currently the flue is set to go out the back. based on my location in my fireplace I feel the vertical attachment would work better. Any difference in draft one way or the other ?

- The firebrick in the back of the stove is cracked. Should I worry ?

- There appears to be something missing between the two back bricks ( see picture )

Thanks for any help

The difference in draft between the 2 is minimal if any. I would personally replace the firebrick and I'm not quite sure what is supposed to be, if anything, in the middle.

Looking at the schematic I don't see anything listed. I was going to connect the flue directly to the liner vertically. Is that going to cause any problems other than cleaning ?

Thanks for you help.

Other than cleaning it does set it back in the fireplace a tad more but looking a your set up I'm not sure it will matter much. Cleaning's no small thing, it would make life much easier come cleaning time if you have a tee.

With that particular stove, I would definitely want a Tee. Unless you pull the stove every year, there is no way to clean out the flue collar after you sweep the flue.

You'll need to buy an adapter to go from the liner to the stove.
