How to get a couple drops of oil in the convection fan?

All the other motors are easy to see the bearings but the convection blower is pretty sealed tight.. I don't even see room to fish the oiler spout inside.. Just wondering how some people do it?
 
It depends on the motor. If it has a sleeve bearing there is a felt, oiling collar around the bearing. One can carefully drill a small oiling hole adjacent to the bearing, clean it out well, then put in 10 or so drops of oils to soak the felt.
 
Some bearings are sealed, may damage it by drilling holes, better off to google the part number and see if It's can be oiled
 
Ya I didn't know if there was a oil hole I wasent seeing... The combustion and auger motors are pretty open and is easy to see the bearings.. Oh well
 
Take it out and tip it as needed to get the oil to run down into the bearing. It's a hassle but my convection blower developed enough friction last year to the point that it stopped working. A little oil fixed the issue.

There are no maintenance ports for oiling anything and nothing in the manual stating it's part of regular maintenance.

Can you post a closeup pic? I don't know about all motors, but both the Fasco motors on my Whitfield have oil ports. BTW, they strongly caution against using more than TWO drops, and say that it is required only once per season. Seems to work like a charm on that schcedule.
 
If you see an outer race of a bearing, then it's not a sleeve bearing but ball bearing. If the 'seal' between the inner and outer race is silver metal, then it's probably a shielded bearing, which means you can tip it on end and let some oil seep into the bearing. If the seal is plastic (usually black or orange), it's a sealed bearing and you let it run until it fails and then replace it. Screwing with it to oil it is both fruitless and could cause more harm than good if you go poking around the seal.
 
I wouldn't poke around the seal.. The end of the motor is closed to I can't see the end of the shaft. That motor runs on the cool side so it's not a dier need to oil it.. I will try and get a pic of it but the tag on the case is a pain to see I would have to take it out to read it..
 
Check the label on your convection motor. If it says sealed bearings then don't worry about oiling it. My Fasco convection motor has sealed bearings whereas the combustion motor does not.motor
