Fiskars chopping axe. Like the splitting axe but different. Great axe!
 
Doesn't look like and ax but this is my go to tool for small stuff. As long as the diameter is less than the width of the blade it is far faster than a conventional ax.

The skinny blade really cuts out the chips.

They are also called surveyors's axes. I used one for 5 years surveying and now use one for maintaining a boundary line on the Appalachian trail. It also weighs a lot less than regular ax so I can carry it in my daypack. Its also quite handy for cleaning off the branches from the trees after you have dropped them. Sharpening is easy with flat file and when the blade wears done in a few years, they are replaceable.

The trade off is they are useless as a splitting ax but that's what a fiskars is good for..
