We have a Buck 81 non-catalytic insert. This is our first wood stove so I don't have anything to compare it to, but we love it. The fireplace is in the living area with all bedrooms direcly off the living area (no hallways), so this makes it easier for heat to reach the entire house. We have a 2350 sq. ft. house. Our dogs sleep in the garage (which is insulated) on cold nights, and we even open the garage door, leading into the house, at times to allow some heat to reach the garage. I don't know anything about a Buck 74, but I can't say enough good about ours. The original blower was very noisy, but Buck replaced it at no charge.rm said:
