That's good but I doubt we even have Chows up here. I hope it changes anyway, they would be smart to move them out of their yards, then let the customers worry about if they get damaged vs eating them due to damage. All these big yards store the pellets right out in the open.
Yea, all the HD's within 50 miles of me show as "may have them in stock, call to ensure availability", except for that short time they said they were in stock and with free shipping.

I haven't checked but the one location, we have three within 7-15 miles or so and more further out. Who knows, if there are so many around they might ship some in. Plymouth is one location that actually has been moving some pellets this winter, and Wareham too.

Down to $199 per ton here too. Last I checked a week or so ago they had bumped them down from $259 to $239 but at the beginning of the season they went up to $269.

Started off at $269 > to $259 in November - December > to $239 at the end of Dec. & 1st of Jan. and now > $199 sitting on a bunch. LOL!

I guarantee you at $199 a ton they are still making money. I bet they go down more although winter is just now hitting here and the cold, cold has settled in now. But the winter cold weeks are numbered here.

Anyone know about Thermo Glows? Any good? I think that's what my HD has and some confirmed junk pellets too.

same price start here 269.00.....
3yrs ago Chows we're 229.00 ton. 4yrs ago I didn't have a stove so don't know what they sold for then...
all I know is 269.00 ton for HD pellets was a bit greedy of them this season approaching prices of better pellets and chased lot of people to look elsewhere and maybe buy better for 20 buck or so more. And of course warm weather and low Oil costs fueled the decline.

Just home from HD; pellets down to 199/ton; 3.98/bag (NE OH). Brought home two bags of Therma Glo to try. The AWFs were buried in the back.

Nothing changed here in 24 hours, still $5.18 a bag.

I found ThemaGlo to be ok for general heating but they are pretty ashy and not overly hot if the weather turns nasty cold. So the P61 ramps the flame up taller etc. TSC packaged at Maine Woods are hotter and less ash FWIW. But then if you're not from out here in the East you may not get Maine Woods at your TSC. It might just be a New England thing.

Still $5.18 here also and I'm not far from Tony

yeah..
I posted early in this thread links to the Home depots outside Phila that show & specify Stove Chows at price drop down to 199.99 ton.......wish it was better pellets though.

still 259 a ton here in NY. They do have stove chows. They are a bit ashy but the heat is good. My stove isnt really picky tho.
I wish they would drop significantly. I have room for an awful lot more and am the now proud owner of a pallet jack.
Anyone know how many tons you can safely place on a garage floor concrete slab?
fitment wise i can shove 20 tons in there, but i dont know if the slab can take it.

STD concrete garage floors are around 4-5" and 4000psi rated. You couldn't possibly overload your floor with pallets of pellets.....

$199 a ton is tempting, but with oil so cheap,($1.49/gal last week) I have a feeling that even if I were to buy a few tons, they'd sit in my basement until next winter, at least. That's not so bad, especially if oil starts to go up, but they'd take up a lot of space that whole time. I'd rather wait until next year's buying season. They may even get cheaper in the Spring. You never know.

Depends on the age of your house - my floor (basement and garage) is 3". Don't know how much that means it can hold though. but vehicles seem to strain it since it has pretty good cracks and some heaving. Of course the cracking might be from rocks and the wet ground underneath too ;)

It's all in the prep! My floor is 26 years, has expansion joints and looks like the day it was poured.
3" is still close to 3000psi with rebar.

I've had my 5300lb truck on jack stands, in which each jack stand puts about 1300psi on the floor.

No expansion joints and I'm not betting on the rebar thing. In fact, the way this house was built, I'm betting on no rebar. Especially since the foundation is block..

Not to mention how much fuel it takes to heat the place!!!

At some point these stores need the seasonal space .

Well well whatya know?! The lowes in Chester has lowered their prices to $5.18 per bag. I can taste the victory...
Compared to the last couple of years where everyone was getting $6+ a bag, some up to $8.75 or so, $5.18 isn't bad for a bag of pellets. But it's the same price as HD now and you don't want to buy those, so how is this victory ? Not that I'm nit picking , just curious.
