I was wondering, now that the temps are consistently colder, how the CB E-Classics are faring? Is the wood consumption less compared to other OWBs? How about smoke?

Well- not that it has been super cold the last couple days, but I haven't put wood in mine since Sunday morning and it is still going strong. That is a pretty good testimony right there. I have been generally filling it only once a day and there has only been enough room to add 3 to 4 new pieces of wood. So far the consumption of wood is impressive. As far as smoke goes, it still smokes but nothing like a traditional OWB and all you have to so to demonstrate that is to run it with the bypass open for a few minutes - it smokes like crazy, and then when you close the bypass and engage the downdraft the smoke thins right out. I am very happy with this stove.

So far so good. I am very happy with mine. Like everyone else on here, I would like to be able to tweak things to try to get a little better efficiency, such as longer burn times and firing less often...... Other than that, I can't think of anything I would change. I have been burning steady since Oct. 1 and have used just over a cord of wood. No oil used for heat and no propane for DHW. I spoke to my sister in law on thanksgiving and she said they seem to be using alot of wood this year..... From what I have heard, my gassifier is using quite a bit less than their conventionals.

I have been using mine since Oct. 20th. I have already burned about 2 full cords. I am not using split wood but whole seasoned oak logs 8-12 inches. I wonder if I would get more heat per burn cycle so less overall burn time if I split some. I may have to experiment a bit but I am heating my 1400ft/2 house, 1500ft/2 outbuilding and DHW. I would have used alot of propane up by now. Seems like alot of wood used though compared to what I was told I should expect.
