Pellets in a Pickup truck

I just bought Oganak pellets (1.3 tons/pallet), the person I bought them from said that they could load the pallets up onto a pickup truck with a forklift. I don't personally own a pickup truck, but I'm thinking that 1.3tons is a bit much for your average pickup truck?

Can anyone confirm my suspicions?

I know some folks on this forum haul 1 ton on their 1/2 ton pickup with no problems.
 
Just hauled 4 tons in one trip between a dump trailer and the pick up bed. We have a 2008 Tundra. About an hour trip from point A to point B.

I wouldn't put 1.3 tons on a pick up unless your doing a very short trip and your shocks are fresh. Make 2 trips...its safer and less wear and tear on your vehicle.
 
A full size pickup should be able to handle the weight and have no problem fitting that pallet between the fenders. For a compact truck or truck with small bed I would make more than one trip as the weight might be too much or the pallet won't fit between the fenders.

I once toasted my Ford Rangers transmission towing a heavy load. That's when I learned what the transmission's A4LD designation meant - Automatic 4 speed LIGHT Duty transmission. I now know what LIGHT means.
 
Thanks for all of your input, I think I will be taking multiple trips just to play it safe.

I would love to get the pellets delievered but where I bought them doesn't offer delivery and they're the only one in the area to carry Oganak pellets.
 
Last year I had a ton loaded onto my 07 F150 with a forklift, I only had about 1 mile to travel. Yeah it made the trip, but I would not do it again. If I had a 3/4 ton truck (F250 or 2500series ),no problem.
This past weekend, I bought 3 tons of Greene Team from Lowes (235 ton). I made 5 trips with 30 bags each. I felt much better doing that.
But if you are renting a truck, by all means load 'er up!
 
I thought about renting a 10ft Uhaul and just having them load it in the back, I could get that done in 3 trips, but I'm not there is a trailer that my Jeep could haul all 4 tons at once, even if I could find a trailer that could hold that much weight.
 
Look at your trucks weight sticker that is located on the drivers side door jamb. It will tell you how much weight your empty truck is rated to haul. This is with the truck being totally empty with only a 150 lb driver. A half ton truck these days can safetly haul more then 1/2 ton in many instances. The law is going to weigh your truck and then look at the trucks weight sticker to determine if you are over weight. I have a dually and my weight sticker says 4,676 lbs that can be hauled. I put 2 ton in mine with no problems at all. The truck wasn't even leveled out yet. It wa slightly sitting up in the back. It really depends what your gross vehicle weight is minus your truck weight. If I had put in 2 1.3 ton skinds in the truckI would be over weight. My issue comes in with the height of the skids in the back of the truck and getting them strapped down correctly.

I have no problem hauling a ton of pellets in my truck. My f150 is rated for 1700 pounds, but 1 ton barely phased it.
I did purchase some okanagans and hauled 60 bags without a problem.

Mine was sitting as bit low for sure, but with 298,xxx miles on it well.. It was a 15 mile drive and it was fine have been doing it for years... 1 ton and no more than that.

Rent a U-Haul trailer for a few hours and pick them all up at once.
 
They're right that a full size pickup should handle one ton but a couple of suggestions are in order. First, unstack the pallet and put the bags in the bed. You're begging for some DOT butt head to see you with this big pallet on the back of your pickup that you are tagged to only haul 1/2 ton at best. BIG FINE!! If you level them out, he'll never see them.
Then, get your air pressures up to the max on your tires to carry the load without overheating.
Finally, get or borrow a 4 wheeler/ATV trailer and put 500 pounds or so on it just to be safe.

The other option is to wait until Mahindra comes out with their pickup with the diesel that has 300 foot pounds of torque and a load limit of 2700 pounds!!!! AND gets 30+ mpg!!!!!
 
I would never put that much wieght on a 1/2 ton truck. I have a 1 ton dually and the rear axel load is rated at 4900 so i can carry 2 ton in it but don't put more than about 1200 lbs on a 1/2 ton axel. Safety is your main concern.

Naw, I will leave that to Pelletsales.com or Woodpellets.com or whatever they are calling themselves this week. Don't need the headache of 40,000 customers bitching because they got 3 wet bags and the moffit can't go into their garage...That is their business model...not ours. We prefer to work with dealers that actually know something about what they sell (unlike most of the big boxes) and will be with us season after season ...I read in a business magazine that is a good way to build your business...over delivering and under promising or visa versa..something like that... We prefer to actually give our dealers customer service, instead of trying to beat them up, forcing product down their throats...call me old fashion, but we think that will work in the long run.......oh yeah and having 4 super great pellets doesn't hurt either.....


So, what are the other three pellet brands you sell besides Okanagan?

Well, BTU, I'm glad I'm SOMEBODY'S best friend....LOL. Anyway, you might decide I'm NOT your best when I tell you the rest of why they'd be better looking backing down my driveway....it would be because they got delivered and they were FREE!!!

I bought from a local farm products distributor. He gave me a fair price with a pre buy, then delivered them to me on an arranged date. He unloaded them and positioned them right in my garage for $20. All 4 ton. I bought from him last year. I don't want to give out his name because he sets the price on a case by case basis. I live near by, have a paved drive with a level entrance to the garage. I am retired and limited in my ability to move pellets. I too find it hard to pass up bargains, but my experience tells me to shop local and shop small business whenever you can. Can't imagine how many trips I would have to make or how long it would take me if I were to attempt to use my truck for this. I make it a point to go back to his place for other home care and pet needs. Works well for the both of us.
 
If you buy pellets at HD they have a truck you can rent, it is a F-350 with a flat bed, it will take one ton but no more, and stores like that have to be strict about what they load. If they put 1 ton in your half ton truck and you crash, it makes a big lawsuit. They even figure the weight and subtract what you can take with passengers in the truck.
my s/b ranger will take 1/2 ton ok, but still wouldn't do it for more than a few miles.
