in NW CT. First of the year... Seems a bit early ????

Anyone else seeing it?
I live about an hour north of Philadelphia. It snowed at my house for about a half hour this afternoon. Way early!

wow no power, wonder what people do without a wood stove that dont have power? freeze to death?

Started snow around 1pm here in Southington. All of the grassy areas were covered. 33 outside 73 inside.

Nothing here on the Ma./Vt border. Cold raw and nasty feeling though. I can wait for snow until say April...LOL

Enjoy it back there, we had the first storm last weekend; about 8-10" on the plains and more in the mountains. Probably the same one you're getting now! 15F plus wind chill (so about 0F). It was a bad day to cut wood in the mountains, but a good night to fire up the stove. Weather forecast advised putting livestock into shelter, the usual first cold of the season stuff. Had to get the winter tires put on the truck, and stocked up on beer, and watched the snow come down. Of course, it's supposed to be 70F this weekend so I guess that makes up for it.

Yes! Perhaps.... Most likely in front of their high effeciency electric fireplace insert.

On October 10th, 1979 (I'm pretty sure on that) we had 10 inches of snow here in the Shenandoah Valley. I'm not looking for that tomorrow night.

Hey Murph, I noticed you earlier for sure. Definitely a handsome face! I need to get it together to put up the Border Terrier avatar.

And have to admit I'm stuck in the wrong forum, being a pelletburner.<G> A little bit of electricity is a fine thing.

I recall in 1987 we had to be in Connecticut in early October. When we started home, heading west on the Interstate we got stopped just inside of NY state because of a big snow. After being stopped on the Interstate for a long, long time we finally was able to get across to the other side and head back east.

The next day we headed west again and the road was open. You could tell well over a foot of snow had fallen and there were trees and power lines down all over the place. We stopped to get some coffee or something but this particular town had been out of power since the day before and told us of many other towns the same. As soon as we got over that hump in NY state, all was well and clear sailing.

No, it is not good to get snow this early.

I remember that storm, grew up in Danbury CT and I was 10. The trees all had their leaves and many limbs came down with the extra weight. I was just old enough to use the family saw, a 24' bow saw. Dad does not believe in power tools. We had a lot of wood that I cut and split. I actually enjoyed the splitting but it took forever. Wood lasted forever because we had a coal stove.

we have had snow on and off here for the last week and a half. coldest so far has been 6 degrees f. the highway was a sheet of ice this morning could have put the skates on and skated to work may have been faster :) .

Wet snow at my house a few miles south of Lake Erie, and a few miles south of me the radar shows a big WHITE cloud, it's a higher elevation and always gets the lake effect snow. I live right on the verge and get a good mix of heavy and light snow falls.

It was snowing in Beacon NY today. Last year we didnt get snow until after Halloween. Global warming my butt.

dang it! the weather lady said we probably wont get snow tell the end of this month, but on a good note this weekend looks beautiful for putting in my chimeny!!! YEA!

what do you know I woke up to snow this morning. not sticking to the ground tho but it snowed all the way too work

Ah yes, the Infamous "October Snowleaf Storm". tore up Wilcox Park in Milan , all those pines snapped, and were sticking out of the ground upside down, my friend was plowing county road, said he was plowing trees along with the snow, my power was out about a week in Hyde Park.

By time I left to take kids to school it was snowing.. not sticking. Actually cooled down a couple degrees from the time I got up (5:30) and the time I was back (8a). Just have to love fall weather.

On the way out I about did a double take as I glanced at the chimney more out of habit than anything... didn't even realize I was doing it. I thought there was smoke. Close look and I realized it was a plume of steam! Guess I'm going to have to get used to that... white and disappearing a few feet away from the cap. Whew! I thought something was seriously messed up as I haven't seen any smoke yet this year.

Youz guys can keep it. I don't want it when the leaves are still on the trees.

Matt

I don't want it even if the leaves are on the ground.

Looks like I need to wrap things up over the next few days. Nearly 2 inches of rain and 6 inches of snow forecast.
