We bought the home in 2002. The 1987 CDW Federated Airtight stove with catalytic combustor came in the home. We use it on weekends, and have burned local only, seasoned hardwood with no problem at all since that time. The original single-wall pipe when we bought the home in 2002 was straight-up about 12-14 feet and through the roof.

We reconditioned the stove (new cat, new gaskets, wire-brushed and polished). We relocated the stove back about 8 feet, so now the pipe run is up 4 feet, a 45 degree bend, across on an angle about 9 feet to another 45 degree bend then to the last 2 foot section to the original roof penetration. Now, after only 3 fires, I have significant creosote on the inside of the doors and the glass. I am also getting water leaking from the upper 45 as well as the D adapter in the back that converts the oval opening to the 6" pipe.

Can anyone tell me what they think is wrong, and what the solution is?

is this all still single-wall? all pipes set such that liquid flows into the pipe below? betting you got rain before, but never noticed w/ the straight run - it just went down into the belly of the stove :(

Can't explain much w/ the creosote buildup. you're sure nothing changed at all w/ the wood supply? it was a pretty wet year - these 3 burns are all you've had this year?

A little bit of a mystery. 2 45's shouldnt cause such a huge difference in draft that it would make the windows dirty. Perhaps recheck the installation of the catalyst make sure there's nothing funny going on in there?

Yes, all still single-wall, and the one incorrect flowing 45 was reset so in flows into the pipe below. Not rain - it happens on clear blue day. The stove was disconnected in November of 2008 and it took almost a year to renovate the room on weekends, so the wood all seasoned an additional year. Yes, only 3 burns since the stove was reinstalled and repiped on October 16th.
