Got to work early today on the new hearth.

Finished cutting the OSB for the decking and got the OAK installed to the existing outside air connection.

Laid down 2 layers of OSB on the deck area.

Next will be the non combustible cement and the tile. Non burnable will be 3/8th thick over the decking.

Quite adequate as most hearth pads I have seen are particle board with tile over them.

I do have one Hearth pad that is 1 inch thick concrete with rock on it. (Bloody well heavy that one is)

I made a template of the stove base and used that to mock up the location of the stove as well as the vent pipe location and the OAK

Here are some piccy's of the stoves and locations in the house.

Pardon the mess, at times its worse :cheese:

As you can see, we have a wide open and spread out living quarters.

The bedrooms are on the wall behind the new hearth area.

The Quad is the farthest stove from the family room (where the hearth is taking shape)

The prodigy is great in moderate weather and will also help when its real cold.

During nasty cold (below 25) it takes two large stoves to heat this barn.

Definately pleased with how the project is all coming together.

Got the cement to put the tile in place today too.

Bought a cool little tile saw at a garage sale for $5 and all it needed was a belt.

Some interesting pixelation in some of the pix. My paint job on the walls does not look like that I assure you. :bug:

Yessssssss

Nice job so far, Snowy! By the way - I don't think your TV is big enough. ;-)

OOOOOOOOK

If you look directly over the plasma TV you will see a Pull down screen. 100 incher

Did have a projector from the rear of the room that gave the 100 inch picture. The Lamp ran out of time and the unit was 11 years old (Used when we bought it)

Picked up the 50 inch Plasma off Craigs list. 2 years old for $400 Best part was it was only 2 miles from my house.
Older couple had it and it had seen little use.

Hoping to get more work done today.

The TV thing was part of the little remodel "Home Improvement"
The projector had to take up a spot in the back of the room and with the new stove/hearth we wanted to eliminate the need to keep a clear shot from front to back and to be able to move the furniture around more.

Had been looking at new TV's but the COST was way more than we could justify.

Craigs list is a great shopping spot.

The TV was $400 the Prodigy Pellet stove with the floor pad was $200 and the Advantage II T was $200

Can't even get anything in the way of a new stove for $800

Two stoves and a TV Oh Yeah Buddy.

The Advantage was said to NOT WORK

Yup would not hold a fire, the thing was so full of ash from what looked like having never seeing a vacuum used on the ash traps

Plugged tight right up to the top with ash inside the ash traps that are behind the brick front

I shop Craigs list often. Recently needed a washer. Found a nice one that had a little small water leak and a funny noise.
New belt and a little hose and sweeeeeet.

Just nice to be able to fix stuff.

Thanks. Snowy

Snowy,

Do you also play that device next to the Quad?

You sure are correct about it being nice to be able to fix stuff.

Been doing it for decades and I'll bet that there are a lot of us that took the time to learn when younger are glad we did.

Yes, but laying on the snow next to dad while holding up the Grenada's exhaust system sure sucked at the time. LOL

YESSSS I can make that device produce some entertaining notes ;-)
We bought that beast many years ago when my daughter was young and wanted to PLAY SOMETHING.

Its waiting its final disposition now as it is no longer used.
Sadly a small portable keyboard unit can make better sound and more of it.

The Old Organ is a beautiful piece of FURNITURE and thats about it.

I have had it on Craigs list for FREE but no takers.

OH YEAH BUDDY
Laying in the snow helping DAD work on the car. Remember that quite well I do indeed.

Dad tearing the hide off his knuckles and cussing so hard the paint was falling off the neighbors house.

Learned a lot in those years.
Dad gave me a lot of knowledge and taught me a trade plus so much more.
One thing he did not do was teach me to be a LADY

Nope sorry folks, that is something I have had to learn out in the real world.
As a truck driver. the likelyhood of anything lady like coming to pass is rather slim me thinks.

Ahhhh well, at 57 now I am not going to worry much. Most folks get along with me fairly well and those who know me just grin and go on about what they were doing when I get off on a rant.

Just gotta love it

Snowy heads off for some more coffee.

"We bought that beast many years ago when my daughter was young and wanted to PLAY SOMETHING."

Ah yes, I can remember dropping quite a bit of coin on the noise makers for my youngest daughter who plays regularly in several groups.

Finished up driving screws into the top sheets of the deck this morning.

Got the tile out and placed several around the area to check the setup. Have to cut three and drill a hole in one for the OAK.

Bought the tile cement yesterday at the depot and picked up a grout color chart.

Jury is still out on the color. I want to use one that is close to the vinyl flooring in the room but ????????????????

Here is a piccy as of a few minute ago.
