Got to work early today on the new hearth.
Finished cutting the OSB for the decking and got the OAK installed to the existing outside air connection.
Laid down 2 layers of OSB on the deck area.
Next will be the non combustible cement and the tile. Non burnable will be 3/8th thick over the decking.
Quite adequate as most hearth pads I have seen are particle board with tile over them.
I do have one Hearth pad that is 1 inch thick concrete with rock on it. (Bloody well heavy that one is)
I made a template of the stove base and used that to mock up the location of the stove as well as the vent pipe location and the OAK
Here are some piccy's of the stoves and locations in the house.
Pardon the mess, at times its worse :cheese:
As you can see, we have a wide open and spread out living quarters.
The bedrooms are on the wall behind the new hearth area.
The Quad is the farthest stove from the family room (where the hearth is taking shape)
The prodigy is great in moderate weather and will also help when its real cold.
During nasty cold (below 25) it takes two large stoves to heat this barn.
Definately pleased with how the project is all coming together.
Got the cement to put the tile in place today too.
Bought a cool little tile saw at a garage sale for $5 and all it needed was a belt.
Some interesting pixelation in some of the pix. My paint job on the walls does not look like that I assure you. :bug:
Yessssssss
