Why have my Depot prices gone up $20/ton when others dropping?

Central/South Jersey
a few different Depots in central/south NJ have either stove chow or freedom fuel
i have burned both the past two years and they are good enough for me. the only other brand i used was energex.
i like the depot ones better they burn hotter

last 2 years the were $249.00
this year they are $269.00

for my 5-6 tons its not a huge price difference but its not even close to the $219 seen in the north east.

what gives?

my local HD was also high on price a couple weeks ago, dont remember maybe $269?.

The thing is that now their price is about $218, same as Lowes, so they did come down.

Check around, are they ALL at that price, what about Lowes?

oh wow, they changed that quickly? is it possible to give me the store location or store # so i can speak to a manager at my local store to present the situation?
there are only two depots by me that stock them, and as of last week the lowes by me did not have their stock or prices yet

i will be calling around again this afternoon

thank you

IMO, I think that the big box stores try to get the most $$ they can initially, just to see what will happen and get a "feel" for the market. If no one buys, they then lower the $$....same thing happened here at my HD.

I agree. I was just at Wallymart yesterday and there trying to get $6.00/bag for Penningtons. Went to HD and Lowes today and I can get pellets for $4.36/ bag. I doubt wally mart will sell much with those prices and we will see them dump shortly!

I contacted a local retailer about what brand of pellets they will stock this year and how much they will charge. Although they know which brand they will be selling, they said two distributors have gotten into a price war to get this retailer's business. As a result, they are a bit delayed in getting their order in place but expect to be selling around $40 per ton less than last year.

problem in my area is there is no competition
i found a lowes nearby but they want $298 for the 1st ton and then save all the way up to 5 tons, with deliver charge and discount it is only $10/ton less then depot
i dont think there is huge demand here, and also the past few years, these stores have sold all their stock at $249 anyway

THey must be selling well in your area, thus they raise the price. Supply and demand

rochester, NH Lowes wants 299 for whatever pellets they have, after I heard the price I didn't care to find out, they are doing the buy two get $25 off, buy 3 tons get $50 off... deal, HD dropped their price to $219 and can't get them in fast enough even with two truckloads or so a week.
I just wish they still had a truck to rent... they ditched it at this store only this past spring.
