Hi guys, will be ready to install my Osburn 1800 soon. Looks like I have a cast Iron baffle in my chimney and the opening is only 5". What's the best way to make this bigger in order to drop the liner. Take a few good whack at it, use a sawzall? Your help is appreciated.

In order to cut the damper with a sawzall it will need to be locked solidly in place so that it can't chatter in the saw. Otherwise you will need a new set of dentures and a bottle of aspirin by the time you are done. Lock it solidly in place with the help of clamps or vice grips. If you just want to remove it, sometimes a hacksaw works easier on the pivot pins depending on access.

Hack saw. Quick and easy with less drama.

Mine was sufficiently thick that an angle grinder was the only option (I don't own a torch...)

Grinder is what I used.

Tried the sawzall: See BeGreens post & add that all kinds of crap was falling in my face the whole time. Tried angle-grinder: not enough room in there. Then I just pulled the pins out of the hinges & took the whole thing out: that was easy.
