My stove was delivered and I installed it last Saturday. I feel like a kid at Christmas. Works great. "where's the cold weather?". I'm chompin at the bit to use my stove. Anyway, 2 questions. If I light my stove in the morning to take the chill off and it runs for an hour or two and then I shut it off. Should I scrape the ash out of the burn pot before I re-light the stove? Its not a big deal, but is that overkill. So I would appreciate any tips on the frequency of burn pot cleaning. Second, feed rate. THe book recommends 4 (1-6 range) as a starting point. 4 Seems to work fine. This morning I tried 5. Bigger flame I think, but what is right? I want the stove to burn efficiently, but don't want to waste pellets. So again, any tips on setting feed rate are also appreciated.

"BRING ON THE COLD" I'm ready!!!!!!

Oh yea, I'm burning a couple of bags of "clean energy?? hardwood from Lowe's. But I had 2.6 tons of Okies delivered yesterday.

I scrape mine daily, basically because the NEWP's are leaving a ton of carbon buildup at the bottom of the pot. Plus, my stove runs a very small flame in maintenance heat mode, and that dirties the glass and piles up ashes, and sometimes creosote all over the heat exchanger. If its just the glass, I'll scrape the pot and wipe down the glass, if its creosote I'll turn the mode dial to "Off" for a few hours then run it on nuclear heat later in the day to burn it all off. I am hoping the stove will run better when the temps really cool down, the last couple of days I've been leaving the stove off for extended hours, its too warm outside.

With good pellets and a "in spec" venting system you should be able to go many days if not weeks before scraping the pot. Harman does recommend you scrape whenever adding fuel. Up to you.

I had the dealer come out to check on a squealing issue, they ended up replacing the motor, problem solved. But I also had them do a test to check the incoming air to the system, which is not using an OAK, and it tested fine. But when the XXV is running with a very low flame to keep the current temp constant in Room Temp Mode, the stove will end up running pretty dirty, at least with the NEWP's I've been using. I won't be done burning thru them until just around X-Mas, then hopefully the Okies will run cleaner, who knows.

Weve had our XXV for 3 weeks now and think its a fantastic stove, except for the orange, I assume creosote stains, that build up on the glass, and are an absolute bear to remove. I leave mine in room temp mode set at 71-72, feed rate on 3.5. Depending on the pellets you use you may need to scrape the pot more or less. My instant heat and warm front pellets leave almost no carbon in the pot and I could probably let the stove go for a month without cleaning it, the freedom fuel pellets i got from lowes leave quite a bit of carbon in the pot and requires more frequent pot scraping.

I only give the burnpot a quick scrape once a day when the stove is running 24/7.
I don't bother when it is only running here and there.

The better the pellets, the longer the stove can go between scraping/cleaning.

Enjoy your new stove!

EDIT: Shoulder seasons, I run it in room temp.
Once the cold is here to stay, I run the stove in stove temp with feed rate on #3.

When the " real " cold gets here i'm going to run the stove in room temp mode with the ignitor in manual so the stove will keep the temp I set in the room, go down to the lowest possible setting ( maintenace ) and stay there until it needs more heat, without turning on and off heating and cooling down. I may be missing something here, but I don't see any reason to run in stove temp. mode except to waste pellets when it's not needed.

Thanks for your replies. I'm just waiting for my wife to say she's cold so I can turn the thing on. I know I shouldn't be wishing for cold, but I'm a boy with a new toy!!!!

Don't worry about the wif.....fire that stove up!! Oh, and welcome to the forum.....not a lot of Rhode Island pellet-heads on here.

BTW, we LOVE pics of new stove installs....why not fire-up the stove, take some pics, and post them here so we can't say "no pic = it really didn't happen!" ;-)
