No more mister nice guy. Started up the Opel for the first time. Nothing worked. The blower that is integrated does not come on, even when the fireplace is red hot. The small blower that blows air to the room above with a thermostat doesn't work either.

Now for the kicker: For a while, i could smell the paint heating up, like when you use a cast iron pan for the first time. After an hour, I could smell smoke in the room. Had to open the doors in the house to get it out. Doors seem fine, nice and snug. Can smell the smoke but can't see it and i don't know where it's coming from. Oh boys, I'm not a happy camper. I'm giving thre seller a call tomorrow.

Tell us more about your install, chimney set up, wood being burned, stove top temp, pipe temp etc. Could be a lot of things adding to your unhappiness.

Check your thermal switch under the firebox, if it is not close enough to bottom of firebox, it will not get warm enough - when this switch is open, both fans will not function. You can trace the wires from the thermal switch to the terminal block in the bottom of the fireplace and jump them to test. I installed a switch across these two terminals to manually turn fans on if I desire.........for testing or if thermal switch goes defective.

Good luck.

I know this is going to sound silly. Did you plug them in? Does the outlet have power?

"You will experience a slight odor during the first few fires. This odor comes from curing paint and oil burning off the metal."

Not flue ?

On my first RSF in my former home, I didn't care for the thermal snap disc switch delaying the start of the blower. While it was not installed well and needed to be adjusted to make better contact with the metal it still delayed the fan too long. When I installed my RSF in my current home, I simply left out the snap disk so I can run the blower anytime I want.

As for the smell of new paint burning off, that is normal.
